Quote:In my opinion Alabama DOES NOT deserve to be in the 4 team playoff. They didn't win their conference. The playoff system will not be fair until it is either an 8 team playoff where all major conferences are represented, with a couple at large teams (each from a different conference) filling in, or a 4 team playoff with the top 4 conference champions. There is no reason Alabama should be in over Baylor. There is no excuse for a team to lose their conference and make it into a 4 team playoff over a team that won their conference. None.

But what if Alabama is better?  They finished with the same record as Baylor but played a more difficult schedule.  Why penalize teams in good conferences and protect those in weaker ones?  Again, a team would be better off playing in a weak conference and running the table every year.

The bowl committee needs to decide, is the goal of the 4 team playoff to pick the 4 best teams or the 4 most deserving.  There is a difference between the two.

Quote:You're getting upset over people giving their opinions about who they would rank as their 4 teams in a playoff system. Michigan State beat you head to head and won the conference. I understand that Ohio State was ranked in the top 5 all season and won every game for 20+ straight. Honestly I can see your argument. But it's just really immature to sit here whining and claim others opinions are wrong or try to dispute them. There are more stats to prove that Michigan State has earned the right to be in that spot over OSU. Just be happy someone is giving the Big 10 credit. They could leave them out completely since the conference lately has been a joke.

I can entertain a good debate, but I was referring to the official polls, which somehow have a two loss Stanford ranked 5th.

Moreover, Alabama should be ranked lower than Stanford, Baylor, and MSU since they all won their CCG and Bama didn't even play in one.

Notice how I didn't include tOSU? (The Homer in me wishes they were higher than 7)

Alabama lost the last game they played, and are being rewarded for not playing this past weekend. Stanford , Baylor, and MSU all played, against the best competition their conference has to offer (save for Baylor, who played Texas) and still couldn't climb higher than Alabama, who sat on their butts and moved up 1-2 spots.

That's not right

Personal bias aside, it should be:

FSU

Auburn

MSU

Baylor

Bama

Ohio State

Stanford

Missouri

South Carolina

Oklahoma

At least, that's how I see it, though perhaps you could make the argument for Stanford being ranked higher than tOSU. But since they have 2 losses, they're ranked lower imo.

Why have a conference then?  If you want conference games to mean something then make that the criteria to play in the championship game.  Besides these things are cyclical.  I know it is hard to fathom right now but the SEC will not always be top dog, how would you feel in 5 years if the PAC12, ACC or BIG10 had superior teams and your SEC Champ was sitting on the out side looking in?

I disagree.  Conference champion guarantees you a spot (so that is why you have conferences), but there are certainly non conference champions that should have a shot at the title in my opinion.  It should be based on several factors and strength of schedule SHOULD be one of them.  You have wild cards in the NFL and it has had some unbelievable and exciting outcomes.  I think the NFL is doing just fine to.

There is no way to say for sure Alabama plays the harder competition. What happens if the Big 12 has a great bowl season and the SEC has a losing record? Then will you say Alabama played a harder schedule? If you put them in the 4 team playoff over Baylor, than it's already too late to change after we find out through the bowls who the best conferences are.

It should be an 8 team playoff. 6 major conferences get automatic bids. Two at large teams, but not from the same conference. Do you guys really think those regular season games are going to lose meaning? How many times has Auburn-Alabama been between two top 8 teams? Probably less than 5% of the time. You people act like the Iron Bowl is always this huge match-up that defines the college football season, just because it's been that way the last 3 or 4 years. And if the SEC is so deep, then wouldn't the loser of that game more than likely get bumped behind another SEC team after they lost? I couldn't imagine any scenario where the game would lose any importance if there was an 8 team playoff.

Also, I would like to see computers be a small part of the rankings still. Everyone always rips on the computers, but you know what's less trustworthy than computers? Bias coaches and media members...and that's who votes in the other polls.
