The Packers backup guard for Sutton would start on quite a few teams so that's another aspect of the release.

 

Unless they decide to kick one of their tackles inside, they really couldn't. Lane Taylor played like trash last season and Don Barclay is a mediocre player whose value comes from being a utility player.

I don't even care if it's a short term bandaid. If we get a year or two of decent guard play from him, that's a win. Having better protection will do wonders for Blake's development.

Joeckel needs to be out of the line up, as soon as possible. He is terrible.

I can't see why Caldwell wouldn't jump at this "gift." This team has only 1 big weakness and this guy seems very solid. All their other options like Bernadeau and Shatley did not pan out and Joeckel is a major question-mark. Pay this guy whatever it takes and then draft a guy in the 1st 3 rounds next year to develop. It is unlikely Joeckel will return after this year anyway as some foolish team will overpay him as a free agent.
