I don't like to categorize but there is a huge distinction on the subject matter of racial acceptance between the following 3 generations:

 

20-40 year old

41-65 year old

66 year old plus 

 

Anyone that can't see this or is unwilling to admit that the Archie Bunker era still exists in the older generation is either living in a vacuum or simply in denial.

Sure there is, but does that mean that the achievements and credibility of individuals from a certain age bracket (and beyond) should be discredited just because of their skin color? Do you know how many scientists, scholars, educators, generals, admirals and others are immediately absolved of their accomplishments when doing this? We are talking about nearly all of western civilizations greatest minds, artists, and leaders, most of whom eventually became old, white men who lived before or during the Civil Rights era. Many of their greatest accomplishments were done when they were old, white men as well.

the 66+ folks would have been in the 20-40 age range back then.  so if we're going to assume that the older you are, the more racist you are... the Civil Rights Movement never would have happened.  It also assumes that somebody who might have been unsupportive of the movement back then, would not be supportive of a similar movement today.  people learn, people change.
