He is not a good player, period and never has been for the Jaguars.  His INT was a nice play but no one can convince me that he's in the top 25 LBs in the NFL.  All he does is make tackles trailing from behind, 5 yards down the field.

No, I've been slowly deciding that he isn't very good during the process of this season.  I was very disappointed watching it live.  I rewatched it to confirm what was obvious.  I just gave you play-by-play.  You can get from it what you want, but that's the play-by-play.

Agreed.  He's our best linebacker, but that doesn't say much.  He was masked by Smith and Session and then when they both when down with injuries, he was exposed as average.

 

Some honestly think he's some rugged, old school, throwback-type linebacker.  The fact of the matter is that he isn't very physical, even for a modern-day MLB.

The point is, why care what he is paid? We aren't a team that needs every available dollar to sign that FA to put us over the top. We won't be anywhere near the cap for at least 3 years.

Did you watch Navarro Bowman absolutely terrorize the Rams last night? In coverage, run-fits, and rushing the passer, that's the kind of impact I expect a $40M linebacker to make, on a consistent basis. This was without

I'm not trying to discredit Poz's ability to be a solid option at MLB, but he's not a special player and is certainly not worth what the Jaguars are paying him. One can make the argument that he's one of the more overpaid players in all of football, and when you're overpaying a non-premium position, it's only a matter a time before an organization finds a more effective cheaper option, your assertion that it'd be difficult to replace a player like Paul Posluszny is ridiculous.

Don't look at the base salary look at the cap hit.  He will be the highest paid ILB next year and 2015 if we keep him

Daryl Smith is a better MLB than Poz and he was had for a 1 year, 1 million dollar contract.  I've already mentioned some young guys that can be had for half the price of Poz next season.

 

To be honest, I think there are only 2 things that saved Poz from being an early cut when Dave got here.  One is that we don't have the cap room to cut him this season with all of our dead money.  Two is that they felt he was worth a look since he's in his prime and is too expensive to cut this year.  Dave purged all of the bad contracts he could in short time after getting the job.

He's not very good.  Certainly not 94 ranks higher than Lee and Laurinitis.  Maybe you'd prefer him to them though.

Ogletree is just as bit as good or better than Laurinitis.  Different positions, but explains why Laurinitis has fewer tackles (as does his tendency to overrun plays out of control.)  He can afford to play reckless when he's got two other quality LBs to either side to clean up.


Poz makes the tackle.  He has to.  He's obviously not sideline to sideline like a select few, but he's not intended to be.  MLBs have different styles just as QBs do, and there's no style better than another just whether or not the player fits the role.

 

Poz gets a bad rap solely because he's the only one of three LBs who are of quality, and he's very good quality even if he's more of a two down LB.  If you're trying to fit a square peg in a round hole, then you obviously won't be impressed.  But if you can't appreciate what he brings to this club, that's not a problem with the LB.

You are out of control if you actually believe tackle numbers are a good indication of how a player is doing.  Russell Allen was 13th in the league in tackles last year.  All pro season?  In any regards, his season was clearly better than Von Miller at 124th or Aldon Smith at 131st in the league.
