Poz Leads Nfl In Tackles
|
Quote:He is not a good player, period and never has been for the Jaguars. His INT was a nice play but no one can convince me that he's in the top 25 LBs in the NFL. All he does is make tackles trailing from behind, 5 yards down the field. He's not awful, but he's definitely not worth $40M, there are very few linebackers that are. Quote:this whole thing proves nothing because its obvious you didnt watch the game objectively. you already decided that he wasnt good before watching the game. No, I've been slowly deciding that he isn't very good during the process of this season. I was very disappointed watching it live. I rewatched it to confirm what was obvious. I just gave you play-by-play. You can get from it what you want, but that's the play-by-play.
Quote:He's not awful, but he's definitely not worth $40M, there are very few linebackers that are. Agreed. He's our best linebacker, but that doesn't say much. He was masked by Smith and Session and then when they both when down with injuries, he was exposed as average. Some honestly think he's some rugged, old school, throwback-type linebacker. The fact of the matter is that he isn't very physical, even for a modern-day MLB.
Quote:that is your opinion. not fact. he is better than average. Actually, he is the 3rd highest paid inside LB in the NFL this year. Next year when his salary goes to $7.45 million, he will be the 2nd highest paid MLB in the league. Paying average-to-good players like they're Hall of Famers was a big part of the patented Gene Smith how-to-destroy a franchise blueprint. You two seem to share that same philosophy, I bet you really miss that guy. Quote:Actually, he is the 3rd highest paid inside LB in the NFL this year. We aren't a team that needs every available dollar to sign that FA to put us over the top. We won't be anywhere near the cap for at least 3 years. So tell me why his cap hit matters. It doesn't matter if you never plan on spending anywhere near the cap, I guess.
If you have any intentions on spending money to field a competitive team, then the extra 5 million per year that you could save by replacing him could go a long ways. We are rebuilding and next year we will have lots of cap space. That will be the time to eat the rest of our bad contracts and start fresh without any handcuffs. Quote:Did you watch Navarro Bowman absolutely terrorize the Rams last night? In coverage, run-fits, and rushing the passer, that's the kind of impact I expect a $40M linebacker to make, on a consistent basis. This was withoutWe haven't found this better/cheaper option you are talking about, so you saying to cut him still makes no sense. There are no Navarro Bowmans waiting to be picked up via FA... And any player on his level will not be some bargain deal to come here. No really good players want to play for a perennial loser unless they get paid really well. yes, in madden you can sign whoever you want. in the real world, good players are highly sought after and there is competition.

Quote:We haven't found this better/cheaper option you are talking about, so you saying to cut him still makes no sense. Daryl Smith is a better MLB than Poz and he was had for a 1 year, 1 million dollar contract. I've already mentioned some young guys that can be had for half the price of Poz next season. To be honest, I think there are only 2 things that saved Poz from being an early cut when Dave got here. One is that we don't have the cap room to cut him this season with all of our dead money. Two is that they felt he was worth a look since he's in his prime and is too expensive to cut this year. Dave purged all of the bad contracts he could in short time after getting the job. Quote:It doesn't matter if you never plan on spending anywhere near the cap, I guess. He's not on a 10 year deal. When we need the cap space, he'll be gone. Quote:He's not very good. Certainly not 94 ranks higher than Lee and Laurinitis. Maybe you'd prefer him to them though.Burfict not very good? LOL... Ogletree is just as bit as good or better than Laurinitis. Different positions, but explains why Laurinitis has fewer tackles (as does his tendency to overrun plays out of control.) He can afford to play reckless when he's got two other quality LBs to either side to clean up. Poz makes the tackle. He has to. He's obviously not sideline to sideline like a select few, but he's not intended to be. MLBs have different styles just as QBs do, and there's no style better than another just whether or not the player fits the role. Poz gets a bad rap solely because he's the only one of three LBs who are of quality, and he's very good quality even if he's more of a two down LB. If you're trying to fit a square peg in a round hole, then you obviously won't be impressed. But if you can't appreciate what he brings to this club, that's not a problem with the LB.

Caldwell isn't going to sign any big free agents, so your question is irrelevant.
The reason that Poz gets so many tackles is because he's on the field too much. When the offense start playing better his numbers will decline. I like Poz but we need a MLB that teams loose sleep over...
NH3...

Quote:Caldwell isn't going to sign any big free agents, so your question is irrelevant.Keeping Poz would be pretty much like signing a big free agent. How do you know what Caldwell will do? If we draft Bridgewater I am sure he will want to fix this oline and put good center in front of our franchise QB.
Quote:Burfict not very good? LOL... Yes, Burfict isn't good. He has a few good plays every now and then, but he isn't good. You are out of control if you actually believe tackle numbers are a good indication of how a player is doing. Russell Allen was 13th in the league in tackles last year. All pro season? In any regards, his season was clearly better than Von Miller at 124th or Aldon Smith at 131st in the league. Face it, Poz is an average middle linebacker and getting paid like he's arguably the best in the league. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
Quote:He's not on a 10 year deal. When we need the cap space, he'll be gone. Yeah, I'm not saying we have to get rid of him. I'm just saying it would make sense to get rid of him. If we plan on spending any money within the next 2 seasons, then it makes a lot of sense. Quote:Daryl Smith is a better MLB than Poz and he was had for a 1 year, 1 million dollar contract. I've already mentioned some young guys that can be had for half the price of Poz next season. smith was also coming off of groin surgery also, he signed with the defending champs, which is not even remotely comparable to our situation.
Quote:lol things like this happens when your offense is terrible.Wrong. There are other terrible offenses in the NFL. How much a defense is on the field does not automatically translate to the middle linebacker tackling 31 times. |
