The San Diego game will be a good indicator of where this team is. Can we win on the road? Can we win in the time zone that historically, we struggle in? Rivers owns us for the most part, but our talent in the secondary is so improved, I think we can actually slow him down. We really need to keep Gates and Woodhead in check.


We played ok yesterday and almost beat a really good team. Only a play away, actually. San Diego is a team we SHOULD beat.

Chargers aren't that bad. They still have talent and a great QB. They are not the Browns, they do make the playoffs semi-frequently. And flying across country probably won't help the jags, it never has in the past.

This. Yup, we need the win; but the chargers aren't going to just lay down for us either. They are not a 'bad' team either. As I recall, people were saying much the same thing about them last year that they are this year, yet they beat us last year and while playing in J'ville too. So I don't see this or any game the Jags play as a 'gimme'. This will be a tough contest anyway you cut it.

 

By the way, I see us starting 1-3 before the by week, and this upcoming game isn't the '1'.

Meh. I'm over complaining about the offcials. We lost because we couldn't get to Aaron Rodgers. It's just that simple. We failed as a defense.


To whine about the officiating is for losers. Besides our coaching staff, I don't see this team as a bunch of losers.


The O-Line and the D-Line cost us this game. Don't be such a mentally weak person to think that the officials were the reason we lost. The fact is that even if we got a few calls our way, Rodgers still had plenty of time to pick us apart. And when we needed a crucial first down, our O-line failed us.


That's why we lost.

I watched a good bit of other games yesterday. The officiating was really bad in most of the games I watched. There were lots of non-calls and also lots of really "iffy" penalties.


It's pretty much a league-wide issue, and not just egregiously horrible against the Jags. Unfortunately, it's just part of the game.


The Jags need to get their trenches playing much better, on both sides. Run-blocking and pass protection is almost a joke. Pass rush still needs a lot of improvement.

Within a play or so of beating a team who are a nearly universal selection as one of the top four teams in the league, even with suspiciously one-sided penalty calls. Sure, there are no moral victories. But that level of play will turn into actual victories.

I don't believe in 'must win' games in week two. But it's a should win game.

That's the whole point. We need to play that well next week too. If we lose next week it's likely because we didn't play that well and that's likely because we're not very good/consistent. That would worry me a lot. As of now I'm pretty confident about the season but if we come out of San Diego with a loss it'll worry me about what direction this team is headed.

We lost this game because:

 

A ) We had a ridiculous amount of penalties called on us. (Most rightly so).

 

B ) We had a few no calls that were big.

 

C ) Our last play on offence was such bad play calling.. To think that our last fourth down right before that one was such a great play call and then they decide to switch it up and throw behind the line of scrimmage (predictable) [BAD WORD REMOVED] me off.

I hope the coaches can somehow put up a good defensive gameplan to stop him. He can't run at al, looks like he's got a big hot turd in his pants when he tries to run. But he cannput up gaudy stats

Remember last season when Rivers had a couple really big scrambles on critical 3rd and 4th downs. It was unbelievable.

Rivers is plenty mobile in the pocket. He will be hard to sack.

We had thrown deep to ARob a few times and I think Olson anticipated them dropping back in coverage to expect that giving us an easy gain and oob.

The Chargers (outside of Rivers/Allen/Verrett/Ingram) are a bad football team, and they just lost Allen for the remainder of the season. The Jags (should) be able to dominate on both the offensive and defensive LOS, there's absolutely no reason why we can't go into San Diego and put up 35+ points, the talent gap between these two teams is significant, I'll  be disappointed if we don't go in and open up a can of "you know what".

The Chargers were perhaps worse last year with such a patchwork O line it was silly. Yet they travelled east and beat us at home.


In my view, currently, it's not about talent in Jacksonville, or outplaying your opponent. It's about knowing how to secure wins in this league. We are about as bad in that area as there is. Not only on the coaches level, but players, scheming, situational savvy to oust opponents, etc.


Chargers may be far worse personnelwise, but they can still conjure enough to beat a young gifted team that outplays them. Keep at it fellows.
