Tate's Cheap Shot On Lowery
|
Tate unloaded on Lowery early in the game on their opening drive and its resulted in a concussion.
Why no flag? I swear I think the whistle was blown and play was over. Lowery was pretty much blindsided. It seems Tate has a history of this kind of hit. Going to try and find it on vid. Does the league look at this or do the Jags have to file a protest?

It was legal. Tate might see a fine for the helmet to helmet contact, but he put his hands on D-Lo's chest first. Receivers blocking on running plays will sometimes catch DBs unaware/unprepared. This was one of those. Gus said that similar running plays they saw while studying Seattle's film showed the WRs moving downfield instead of "cracking." That is likely why Lowery didn't see it coming - but it was legal.
It was technically legal, but also a dirty hit. If defensive backs aren't allowed to hit defenseless receivers, why are receivers allowed to hit defenseless safeties?
Tate has a history of this stuff. The guy is dirty.
I did uncover a comment from Bradley in a Times Union article that the hit was "legal".
Hard to believe what I saw was legal...but guess I have to accept it. :verymad: Good point Voltage.

I didn't really have a problem with it. I was hoping Cyp would pop Tate real hard later in the game and make him think about it, but didn't think it warranted a flag.

Guys who play like Finnegan, Hines Ward and Tate always get theirs. Watch the 'Hawks go all the way to the Super Bowl and Tate gets lit up on the first play of the game.
It didn't look dirty to me...

I didn't see it as dirty at all, Tate's not a dirty player it was just a good hit and Lowery wasn't ready for it.
let's not put skirts on this team, their bad enough already.
It's football. Stop acting like a bunch of panty wastes.
If it was a Jag that did it to the opposing player, you would think it was cool and you know it.

BUT,.....the Jags have been flagged for a lot less. anyway, I just hate he got a concussion out of it.

I think its called a concussion now if the guys a little dizzy or has the sniffles. I can't even image how many modern nfl concussions i've probably had.
It didn't look dirty to me, those crack back blocks are pretty common from high school on up. That's why you gotta keep your head on the proverbial swivel.

Thanks for the video.
So does the NFL fine a clean, legal hit? Of course 21k is chump change to these guys but its at least symbolic. There was no ball carrier around he just whacked him. but whatever.

The last time I read the term "crack back block" was when a Jets offensive lineman knocked Brian Cushing out for the season. There was a lot of talk about that being outright dirty and people wondered why CBs are legal blocks.

Quote:» Seahawks wide receiver Golden Tate was fined $21,000 for striking a defenseless player, safetyDwight Lowery, in head/neck area in Seattle's win over the Jacksonville Jaguars. Lowery suffered a concussion on the play.NFL.com ^^
It was a solid hit. Tate took advantage of Lowery when he should have kept his head on a swivle. It happens. Being a UGA fan, and a Hines Ward fan, I am not ashamed to admit that Tate has a little bit of him in his play, build, and YAC ability. I like the kid. SEA is tough man. They don't mess around when it comes to defense, and they certainly dont mess around when it comes to the running game. If Bradley and Caldwell can somehow manage to model our roster after them, I am ALL for it.
