Jimmy Garoppolo
|
I was in Cleveland back in October listening to a local sports radio show on the ride to the airport when the local host brought Garoppolo up. The exact details are a bit fuzzy but to summarize some high powered scout was there to look at an opposing player and came away from the game gushing about Garoppolo. I have not seen him play personally but he has been quietly on the radar for some time now.

Quote:It's a wild theory but they don't have that many weaknesses in their side especially if people can stay healthy. To me they need depth plus the start of their season showed there is talent at developmental positions and this is a draft with a huge number of potential qbs that need developing. If they don't think Mallett is the guy and their guy is their I reckon back end of the second round If they had no faith in Ryan Mallett, he would already be gone But I don't think they drafted him to be Tom Brady's successor. All of the talk about "can the Patriots win without Gronk" makes me think they might be in the market for a backup tight end. Quote:Who does he play for? I need to watch him.I would like to see your analysis on Garopollo and David Fales
Quote:I would like to see your analysis on Garopollo and David Fales I would like to see you spell Garoppolo correctly. The only analysis I care about right now is projections for how high the top five quarterbacks will be picked. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
Quote:Big question is: does he pass the TMD name test? I think that is iffy. Jimmy Garoppolo sounds like either a kid that grew up in the neighborhood with Martin Scorcese. Maybe his dad owned a bakery or cheese shop on 32nd street. Not sure whatever happened to that kid. Or sounds like a little like a scrappy middleweight boxer from the 50's/60's. Had his one shot against Floyd Patterson but got knocked out in three rounds.
That scrappy fighter was Tom McNeeley, a local legend here in the Boston area from the shores of Spy Pond in Arlington, Mass. He was knocked out in 4 rounds back in the mid-sixties.
His son, Peter McNeeley, was the guy/tomato can that Mike Tyson fought when he got out of prison after serving time for the rape conviction. I think it lasted into the second round when McNeeley's corner stopped it before Peter was killed. On topic, I like Garoppalappalo in the 4th too.
Season Ticket holder since 2004.

I wonder if he goes to Senior Bowl, I'd love to see him against top level competition
Quote:I wonder if he goes to Senior Bowl, I'd love to see him against top level competition With Murray and Mettenberger out, his chances are better of making it there. I figure McCarron, Boyd and Carr are sure-things.

Corey Chavous praised Jimmy Garoppolo to the hilt in an interview on KFAN-FM in Minneapolis. Including rating him higher than former Eastern Illinois QB Tony Romo. Go to around the 17:35 mark of the podcast if you want to hear the discussion about Garoppolo:
Posted Wednesday, December 11th 2013 @ 10am Adam Caplan joins to preview the Vikings-Eagles game and Corey Chavous tells you why Jimmy Garoppolo is the best quarterback in the draft. http://www.kfan.com/media/podcast-paul-a...-24077783/
Welp - He's definitely not a sleeper anymore. Lots of talk about this guy over the past two weeks. The pool of possibilities for the Jaguars keeps expanding. Should be fun to watch folks tripping over themselves to proclaim the flavor of the month a "must draft" for Caldwell.

Just watched one of his cut-ups. http://draftbreakdown.com/video/jimmy-ga...tate-2013/
He's got some good traits. Still pretty raw - but very intriguing. positives: -willingness to move around in the pocket or out of the pocket to keep the play alive, all the while looking downfield -in this particular cut-up he looked at multiple receivers before passing about half of the time (some others were obvious one-read plays by design) - while a few of the passes in the cut-up would be sure-thing picks in the NFL - he seems to possess the arm strength to make the throws against NFL defenses with a bit of coaching negatives: decent chance he's not ready to start right away in the NFL - big leap from that conference to pros |
