U.S. owes black people reparations for a history of ‘racial terrorism,’ says U.N. panel

Quote:Who are some? Who is wanting revenge? Cry me a river. No privilege for me. In fact, during my career - I've been discriminated against by EEOC. I was passed up because the company needed to improve their numbers. I know this because in my position I was shared the numbers and told they needed to improve. Nothing to do with performance, just making the numbers "right." But do I blame a "system." No. I just get better so that it doesn't happen next time. None of us had any choice in what we were born into. But we do have the choice whether or not we allow ourselves to be slaves to our excuses for lack of achievement. You're precisely what I'm talking about.

Quote:Because the actual government is directly responsible for what happened to the Japanese and Native Americans. While they didn't prevent slave ownership, the government didn't round up black people and give them to people as slaves. Might not seem like it to you, but there is a big difference between the two. The government is directly responsible for allowing slavery. It is directly responsible for Jim Crow, Reconstruction. It is directly responsible for segregation of Whites and Blacks, which is why laws were passed to end it. It was directly responsible for voter suppression which is why more laws were enacted to attempt to curb that. It was directly responsible for the Tuskegee Syphilis experiments on Black people. It was directly responsible for the 80s crack epidemic in black communities that had never seen the drug. It is directly responsible for treating its African American citizens like second class citizens. Negligence is just as bad. If you neglect something at work will your boss say "No I won't fire you because you weren't directly responsible for what happened, even though you showed neglect and allowed it to happen". If they don't fire you they might need to re-evaluate themselves as supervisors.
Quote: Because the game is RIGGED, just like everything else if you aren't a white male.Dude, the game is rigged against everyone who isn't white and rich. Don't kid yourself into thinking the truly privileged white folks- that would be the wealthy ones- give a rat's butt for anyone who is not their equal to include all of lower class (in their opinion) white folks and that means white males. There is a good old boy network in this country that doesn't affect just the blacks or any other minority, it affects everyone who is not in the club and guess what? Most of us are definitely not in the club. Most of are just trying to live our lives the best we can and be good people to our neighbors, coworkers, families, etc. Do whites in general have it better than blacks and other minorities? Yes. Does it make life any easier? In some ways yes, in others not even a little bit. Rashean27Mathis said it best, income inequality is what screws us all over and that is thanks to the truly privileged white folks.
Quote:Cry me a river. So you're pointing to reverse discrimination? Is that what you want to say? They wanted to improve numbers for underrepresented groups so they passed you up? Discriminated against EEOC, what a joke. My father couldn't even dream of getting a job as a firefighter in Jacksonville until AA was enacted in the 1970s. A black man as a firefighter! Such as silly idea.

Go Jags!
*To stay up for atleast 2 years 3/6/17 2016 draft players I think will be good
Quote:To repeat...there were those who saw how wrong this was, and gave their lives fighting it.It already does in the form of social programs and that includes all races who live and depend on it.

It could be the fact you're a male (any male - black, white, asian) and just the mere fact of being one you get paid a little more than a woman. Then it could be because you represent a particular group (white vs black). It could be based on income (rich vs poor). It could be based on sexual orientation (Straight vs gay). It could be based on gender identification. It might even something as simple as the abled vs disabled or young vs old. There are all types of privilege.

I'm, like, 2% Cherokee. Where are the reparations due to me for racial terrorism committed against people I could never possibly know the names of 200 years ago who just happened to carry genes that made it to me?

Such as silly idea. WAAAH! My mother was treated worse at a public school when she was a child. Should I hold my hand out and demand payment and or and apology? Get over it. The past is history. There are 10 kinds of people in this world. Those who understand binary and those who don't. Quote:So you're pointing to reverse discrimination? Is that what you want to say? It's exactly the same and both are/were wrong. Merit, not group affiliation (including the good ol boy club mentioned by others) is what should count. It doesn't always, and it's always wrong in those instances.

Quote:It already does in the form of social programs and that includes all races who live and depend on it. There will always be people who game social programs. People who have questionable morals, will try to game anything they believe they will get away with. I see tons of poor people on street corners. Some of them really do need money and food. Some people don't. I can't worry too much about what people will or won't do with the money/food I give them. If my heart is in the right place, I just help and hope I was able to make a difference. Do people exploit welfare systems? Yes. Are there people who actually use the programs because they truly need help? Yes I believe that. We show less advertisements to registered users. Quote:It's exactly the same and both are/were wrong. Absolutely. It should never matter who/what you are, it should be based on what you can do. The quotas in education and the workplace need to go. There are 10 kinds of people in this world. Those who understand binary and those who don't.
Quote:I'm, like, 2% Cherokee. Where are the reparations due to me for racial terrorism committed against people I could never possibly know the names of 200 years ago who just happened to carry genes that made it to me? Ask the government. Do you have proof of your Cherokee ancestry? Will the Cherokee Nation recognize you as a citizen?
Quote:There will always be people who game social programs. People who have questionable morals, will try to game anything they believe they will get with. The point is, there are many that use the programs as a form of "income" rather than assistance while they try to better themselves. Welfare has become a way of life for some. There are 10 kinds of people in this world. Those who understand binary and those who don't.
Quote:Ask the government. Do you have proof of your Cherokee ancestry? Will the Cherokee Nation recognize you as a citizen? There you go again. "Ask the government". Want to know one of the fastest, easiest ways to bone the economy? Make a habit of handing people checks because of things that other people did to people they claim to be related to 200 years ago.
Quote:It's exactly the same and both are/were wrong. Its not the same at all. Had it not been for AA, many African Americans and other people of color would never have a shot of getting those kind of jobs no matter how good they might of been at them. Ask yourself this: Who had all the jobs in the first place? Doctors, Police Officers, Firefighters, Lawyers, Nurses, Politicians? Who had all the best schools? Who had the connections, the influence and the power to continue getting more people that looked like themselves in those positions? You know the answer but you will sit here and type, ignoring your own privilege.
