Who Will Be Brought Back?

#21

Henne knowing the system gives him a huge leg up on any FA back-up/bridge type QBs we could bring in. I wouldn't mind it.

I think I'd risk having someone else learning the system over cofortable in his role and passing for 120 yards.

Quote:Henne will get another 2 year / $4 mil deal and act as the baseline QB who knows the system, can make the throws, and can manage and win games as the team around him improves.  1 or more young QBs will be brought in and given the chance to win the starting job.

As for MJD, he should get a similar deal at about $2 mil a year.  Meester?  I dunno.  His contract is up.  He could play another year and if the Jags don't draft a C they might want him back.  We could really use a young stud with some push in the middle, but other priorities may take precedence.
1 season in the current system doesn't exactly give him the leg up over possible FAs. I don't know that we would see such a big difference between FA and Henne, purely based on knowing the system.

The hope is that the rookie will start next year, anyway, so the point seems to be moot. Such is my opinion.

After today I'm inclined to agree with you.

Ahaha seriously though, look at the Free Agent QB's this offseason. He is probably the 2nd best.

Derek Anderson CAR   Jimmy Clausen CAR   Jay Cutler
CHI   Jordan Palmer CHI   Josh McCown
CHI   Trent Edwards CHI   Shaun Hill DET   Matt Flynn
GB   Seneca Wallace GB   Chad Henne JAX   Pat Devlin MIA   Joe Webb MIN   Josh Freeman
MIN   Luke McCown NO   Curtis Painter NYG   David Garrard NYJ   Michael Vick
PHI   Charlie Whitehurst SD   Tarvaris Jackson SEA   Colt McCoy SF   Kellen Clemens STL   Dan Orlovsky TB   Rusty Smith TEN R
Rex Grossman WAS

My GOD that's the worst looking bunch of FA QB's to be available at the end of a season that I have ever seen, and by worst I mean THE WORST!!!!!!

The best on that list is Cutler but he's an often injured head case, not a good fit for the Jags, plus he will want to break the bank, which is another reason the jags don't need him.

Dare I say the jags might as well keep Henne for a fair price.

I survived the Gus Bradley Error.
