How would you feel about Fournette in the first?
|
Taking a running back in the first round is a taboo for a lot of people these days but the way I see it...I think Fournette would be the best pick for us assuming we pick top 5 again. Looking at the roster and what will be available in the draft next year, running back is one of the only positions I think needs to be immediately upgraded and it will be the only position in the draft available to us that will have a superstar there (if not Fournette then Cook). You don't take a guard in the top 5 and there are no superstar OLineman like that in the draft anyway (imo), a secondary upgrade would be a luxury pick, and I think we just have to roll with what we have at the rest of the positions and let the young guys develop. Running back is the only position that fits need and value if we pick top 5...we shoot probably regardless of where we pick in the first round this year. And Dave has already shown he's not against drafting a RB high in the draft...if Gurley were not injured he would have been our pick at 3 in the 2015 draft.
Anyway, my personally, I would take Fournette right now, in the top 5. This team NEEDS a running game, Fournette is a superstar. Caldwell will need to produce a winning record next year and to do that he needs Bortles to play well. He has to give Bortles every chance to do well next year and that means giving him a running back that will take pressure off of him. Sign a OG in the offseason, draft Fournette, and get it rolling. I would like that pick, the 2 top prospects that I would like the jags to draft are Peppers and Fournette, IMO both will be special, that being said I think the inability to run the ball has more to do with the OL, but if we get an upgrade at OG (I'd rather see that upgrade though the draft) I think that would work.
We have the top running back of the afc last year. So no thanks.

As long as the offensive line is solidified, I wouldn't mind taking a potentially elite RB. I've heard that offensive line talent is lacking in this upcoming draft, so our first pick might have to be RB, SS, or LB/DE.

It doesn't really matter who is in the backfield for us right now when they are getting hit behind the LOS almost every time. Yeldon has shown promise when he gets a little bit of space. I think Linder and Cann will continue to get better but we need a home run at LG. Whether that comes in the draft or FA, it has to happen for the running game to succeed. If we are in a position to draft Fournette (Top 5-7 pick), I would assume we have much bigger problems to fill through the draft. If we can sign a high level LG and are drafting in the low-mid teens, I would not mind drafting Dalvin Cook. He is an absolute game changer.

This would be fixed with an OC change or a completely different scheme. Parnell, Cann, Linder, and Beachum are supposed to be good run blockers... very confusing as to why it hasn't been consistent. I like Yeldon a lot, and I like Ivory. We ultimately need to stop running Ivory on stretch/zone plays. That is Yeldon's strength, and the offensive line seems to be built to run the power game, not the finesse running game.

Quote:Say no to legerettte Blount 2.0 LOL ..... In their 1st 4 games this season, Legarette Blount had 51 more rushing yards and 2 more rushing TDs than the entire Jags team this season.
I absolutely would take him in the first round. I think he would give us a balanced attack.
Ivory has been a huge.....no.....an enormous disappointment. And Yeldon is not a starting RB in the National Football League. I think Yeldon has maybe 1 hundred yard game so far. Maybe a couple of rushing TDS. We need a running game. Yes to Fournette.

I like the pick. For me it would between Leonard Fournette, Jabrill Peppers, Cam Robinson, and Myles Garrett. If your running backs do better this year we have to really take a look into OL or SS and Garrett who looks like he could be better than Von Miller. This draft is loaded early on compared to the past couple drafts.
RBs are irrelevant. Rams took Todd Gurley 10th overall and I'd argue Gurley was just as good a prospect. And yea he has been a good player for them but they still are terrible. RBs just dont matter anymore.

Ive seen some about this years safety class being great so thats a big option, if myles garrett is really great then him too.
But after that im fine with Fournette/Cook if theyre healthy. A lot has been made of Blakes continuous struggles, im fine with taking as much pressure off him as possible.

The answer is unequivocally no, good football teams are built from the inside-out, there's also no need to take a RB in the 1st RD anymore. Leveon Bell was a 2nd rd pick, David Johnson was a 3rd rd pick, there are many more examples of this. The problem with our run game has nothing to do with Ivory or Yeldon, Ivory was the AFC's leading rusher last year, Yeldon is a solid all around back, there are simply no holes to run through, Leonard Fornette (or any RB for that matter) isn't going to make that problem "disappear". If the Jags are drafting in the top 5 next, it will likely be a pass rusher or a guy like Jabril Peppers. |
