Thank you Dave for not beating out the giants for Vernon!

Quote:The issue I was addressing is if he looks like an all-pro or not. An all-pro is not a sieve against the run.
Hes a rookie of course I was off saying All Pro.  But was meaning like a stud or all pro for a rookie.  People have brought up stats between him and the monster de of denver rookie year and Yannick stats are similar.

My point is dodged a major bullet so far.  Could that change?  It could but don't matter.  Cause I did not play ff this year.  And my only concern is our current players.

ok then

Honest question, do we have evidence that Yannick has been a sieve against the run? I know that was in his scouting report but I can't think of any plays where he has clearly looked awful against the run. I also can't find any stats that say he is really bad against the run either.

About all I can find is a quote from Gus last week saying the team has been quite surprised by how good he has held up against the run. Obviously that doesn't mean much, but it's a little something where I can't find anything else.

go back and watch the tape. he has been bad against the run and gets pushed around. he has moments when he holds his own, but he is bad against the run. offense run the ball noticeably better when he is on the field as opposed to Fowler.

But regardless he is paid to be a pass rusher.  So is Vernon.  Not a run stopper.  Does it help yes.  However to say vernon is a better Pass Rusher so far is so no true. Even if compare fowler in pass rushing.  Fowler has looked better.  And neither have a probowl de on the other side.

Heywood when he was not injured and on his game.  Was pretty good.  Easily better then gene smith de sides Kampman.  And Kampman was the same song and dance when he was in game and not injured was a factor.

Correct spelling is Reggie Hayward not Heywood.

Heywood you elaborate further?

Why do people insist on going back to the run game? You think the coaching staff is telling him to stop the run or get the QB? You think the Giants paid Vernon all that money worried about stopping the run? lol That's like the least important thing about being a LEO in this scheme. Especially when Malik is top 3 in QB hurries.

Quote:Normally I would agree.  However our new guard is brand new just picked up a few weeks back.   our guard  was moved to center (linder) our new LT (beachum) is coming off an injury.   Our rb (ivory) is new,  Lee is still a work in progress and 7 defenders are new.  (ramsey) (fowler first year playing off of injury) (yannick)  (jack) (Gipson) (prince) (jackson)  and (colvin in my eyes one of our best corners)  is just returning back.

It will take time to gel. If in the next 2-4 games we don't improve ya can state that.  But to think all these players will learn a brand new playbook and play high caliber out of the gate is foolish at best.

I am thinking we will win 7 or 8 games this year.  Which is a major improvement.  And shows signs are looking up.  Anything above that.  Is gravy.  But 7-9 with a good chunk of new starters is reasonable.

Dear Teal, excuses are abundant if you look for em.  titans, whom we are supposedly ahead of in the retooling process are 2-3, won on the road...

Fair enough mate, we'll revisit this at the end of the season when they finish close to 0.500

I am more than reasonable in my expectations but get weary of dissecting personnel sometimes.  You know it's tiresome being one of the league's worst.  But hey, we are here for the long haul.

Success is a journey, not a destination.  Go all out Mighty Jaguars.

I'll say this, if through 4 games you told me Vernon would have 3 sacks, 3 forced fumbles, countless hurries, and 1 interception, I'd say that he is worth the contract given

He didn't want to come to Jacksonville. I'm over it. If he sucks, cool. If he is doing well, that's cool too. We have built up our defense the right way... with tons of potential young playmakers.

Obviously we gave up a lot of yards on the ground to SD, but I can't think of any particular play (or a handful of plays even, since anyone can look bad in any facet from time to time) where I was like "oh yep, he's clearly worse than everyone else at run defense". I'm also not saying those plays weren't there, they might have been.

Don't have the exact play, but it was one of Gordon's first break out runs. He seemed to get driven inside blocking pursuit from the person assigned to that gap. Now, I don't have all 22 or whatever, that's what I saw from replay. It seemed like he should have held the POA but instead tried to make the play and was pinched inside.
