Quote:OK 9 games then. They had a winning record and were on the brink of a playoff berth in Week 17.

It's been a long time since the Bills had a winning season and were in the playoff race going into Week 17.

Quote:Wrong math symbol. Five plus five is a winning team because there are not 25 games in a single season.

Anyway, if you look at last year, nobody said just because the Bills and Jets missed the playoffs they were losing teams. They each had 10 wins.

To be fair, there's a whole lot of century left.

Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

Absolutely.   One great aspect of sports is regardless what happened previously,  there are new opportunities.   The off-season and summer sell hope.

And then fall and winter come and kick most of us in the ol' berries.

As far as the refs being against this team, I doubt that's the case.  However, I do think that there does tend to be a certain bias when it comes to some teams vs. a team like the Jags.  There are definitely calls we're not going to get that some of the league darlings will almost every time.  The same is true for drawing flags.  It was clear early in the season for the first couple of games that the refs had made the conscious decision to stick it to the Jags with a truckload of horrific calls.  When you've got the league office agreeing that 16 calls were blown in a single game, that's a problem.  That goes beyond market bias and is potentially a sign that officiating has hit rock bottom.

The retired ref Gerry Austin was my high school teacher back in the early 70's and over the years he would visit my place when he was doing a Jag game. We would talk about the up coming game and rehash old times back in Asheville, N.C. Talking to him was enlightening.

He would emphasize how fast each play was unfolding, with 22 players on the field, with each official tasked to watch certain elements of the game, the multitude of possibilities on each play, and with about 70+ plays per game they were going to miss things. But the one single most important aspect of their objective was to not be the reason for the outcome. They abhorred being the reason for a win or loss. Some calls missed or made, are not reviewable; and to a referee getting it wrong without the ability to reverse it was sickening.

I, like all fans, don't like missed or bad calls, but I also realize referees don't like them either. I don't believe they are either for or against any team.
