2014 free agent signings

A note to this also is that the team had Emmanuel Sanders and Willie Young in the building but failed to sign them.

Quote:I just went back and looked at all of Gene's draft picks and then looked at all of Dave's.

As a result -  I can no longer take this topic seriously.

Did you happen to look at Dave's 2014 Free Agent Acquisitions ?

Free Agency Additions:
  • Toby Gerhart, RB (formerly with Minnesota) – should start
  • Tandon Doss, WR (formerly with Baltimore) – will fight for kick return duties with Ace Sanders.
  • Zane Beadles, G (formerly with Denver) – should start
  • Ziggy Hood, DT (formerly with Pittsburgh) – roster depth
  • Red Bryant, DE (released by Seattle) – should start
  • Chris Clemons, DE (released by Seattle) – should start
  • Dekoda Watson, LB (formerly with Tampa Bay) – should start

Quote:This^ and anyone wanting Caldwell gone at this point is clueless.  Caldwell made some early mistakes/learning...JokeL, Bradley, etc.  He has since learned and built an awesome roster.  He just needs to get the right HC now.

I think the next two games for the Jaguars will be telling regarding whether this current coaching staff has a future with the team.   The Jaguars injury situation seems better than it is for most teams at present.     A solid case can be made that the Jaguars and Raiders are close in talent.   With the game in Jacksonville though,   it's a game that fan base collectively should expect the Jaguars to win.   Especially,  since this is the closing on the middle of Gus Bradley's 4th season and the talent that has been added to the roster.

The following game in Tennessee on Thursday Night is another measuring stick for the Jags.   The Tennessee coaches are doing a good job with a relatively limited roster     On paper,  the Jaguars have more playmakers,   especially on Offense.    If the Jaguars win these two games,  I think the Jaguars might have turned the corner and an AFC South Title could be their for the taking.   If the Jaguars lose these two games,   a coaching change either during the bye or at the end of the season probably will be necessary.

Though that FA class didn't pan out,  other than Zane Beadles I don't think any of these players were viewed as long term solutions.    In essence,  they were transitory players as the team was in the process of building the roster through the draft.     Even if all of these players would have played close to the way the Jaguars hoped,  other than Beadles none probably were projected as starters when the team was expected to be ready to contend for a playoff spot  (  in 2016 ).   IMO,  Dave Caldwell's drafts have much greater significance regarding the Jaguars big picture.

Gerhart, Beadles, Bryant and Clemons were starters. This was a bunch of fill-ins in the 2nd year of a rebuild. I don't think any were expected to be long-term starters except Beadles, who was the only one you could call a premium free agent. There were always hopes that one might turn out to be another find like Sen'Derrick Marks, but that wasn't counted on.

Good analysis D6.

It's almost as if they had a plan.

DC failed with QB and HC. Think Khan needs to evaluate everything this off-season.

So. About that QB. Can't even pass on the worst pass defense. But he's a franchise QB.

They wait until we are down by double digits and pray the team slacks off enough for us to win

Caldwell is part of this culture of failure. He selected Bradley and he selected Bortles. Both are bad.

This team has no leadership and needs a Head Coach
