Basketcase Bortles

Having no running game whatsoever doesn't help him out either. Crazy that we used to run against 10 men in the box with success. .. MJD man. Missing him

Too talented to bench, no good QB's in the draft.

You have to simplify things at this point. Get him using his legs and get him going with simple throws early.

That talent has been incredible

Nobody on this coaching staff is smart enough to create an offensive game plan around BB strengths.

How do you possibly make it more simple than what they have been trying?

He can throw deep? Check.

He can throw on the run? Check.

He has success outside the pocket? Check.

He has success running no huddle? Check.

He prefers a vertical passing offense? Check.

Alright Blake, I want you to be a pocket passer and throw short passes only.

Roll him out,

Use the option

Don't bang your head against a brick wall and burn first downs on 1 yard runs and constantly put him in a hole

Have easy dumpoffs available (i noticed on a few of his throws there was no short outlet when under duress)

Create a running game with short throws to backs instead of runs that aren't working

You don't succeed in the NFL running bootlegs and read options every play.  You win with a QB that can deliver from the pocket on script.  Being able to turn broken play/off script stuff like R Wilson is a nice bonus but not the norm that will get you deep to the playoffs.

Yes but we can't run the ball at all. So a normal offence can't work.

Exactly. Without a run game, we are a one-dimensional offense and opposing defenses can plan for that.

We have to find a way to fix the run game, we can't even run against the poorer defences.

The only ways I can think:

Try a fullback

Pick up some new linemen

Run the QB

I like the FB idea and we definitely need new O-Linemen, but we also need a power back with some breakaway speed. This draft is full of them. I really like Leonard Fournette, Nick Chubb, Royce Freeman and Kareem Hunt.

4 teams have worse rushing stats than us. 3 of them have winning records. If we had a decent QB our lack of rushing could be overlooked more.

I like chubb over fournette. Or Dalvin Cook

Cook isn't really a power back. He's a finesse runner like Yeldon.

Chubb or Cook for me.

Do those teams have #28 ranked scoring defenses too? Didn't think so.

Yea but he actually has blazing speed and acceleration. Yeldon is slow.

Bortles have inflated our rushing yards a little bit though.
