Approval of Olson Firing?

#21

To be fair, it couldn't hurt.  Give him the keys and lets see what he has got.

Yeah, I think of it as a "can't hurt, might help" move. What is the matter with that?

However, I am confused about the Hackett pick. Is he not the guy who allowed Bortles to develop bad mechanics this year?

Could be, but Hackett also might know better than anyone what blake is good at and call more plays that work for Bortles.

I hope he does.

But if he doesn't call enough running plays he's fired ...

So much this.

Quote:Not sure who else you would suggest in place of Hackett. Surely not Marrone. His unit has regressed just as bad. Not Skipper. The running backs haven't exactly lit the world on fire. Maybe Jerry Sullivan? Has he even called plays before?

Olson's firing was pointless, done only to placate the fans. It would have better to do nothing.

It is impossible to get better by doing nothing.

Nope. Doing something could make you worse, and if it does, doing nothing would have been better.

When you know who is causing a problem, you know getting rid of him will not make things worse.

Well, we haven't done that yet, now have we?

We got rid of one guy who was causing problems.

And promoted a guy who was causing a larger problem.

Obviously we did not. A position coach can't be a larger problem than a coordinator.

There are only so many scapegoats Gus can have walk the plank before it's his turn, so it's progress in any event.

Anything can't help but be an improvement at this point, so who could possibly object?

Your constant operation in absolutes routinely renders whatever point you are trying to make laughable. A position coach's ineptitude can absolutely cause a larger problem than a coordinator, especially when the position is quarterback, the most important position not only on the offense, but on the team.

I see it mathematically:

QB coach works with 3 or 4 players. He is only in charge of Blake Bortles, Chad Henne, and Brandon Allen unless we have a QB on our PS.

OC is in charge of at least 22 players.  He writes game plans and is the direct supervisor for all position assistants except Doug Marrone.
