Olson Fired
|
Its not that. it is the way he carries himself and things he says.
Sounds like he genuinely cares and wants to win. And if he can get the offense moving we are still in it. If improves this team to 8-8 or 7-9 It was worth it. Our d if the offense gets rolling is really good. Still need more of a pass rush. But is steadily starting to come together. Just cant expect to forever go three and out in beginning of game. And our d wont get tired, they are still human.

Quote:Wrong target. (not that Olson doesn't deserve to go but is the one above him that's gotta go ASAP) Exactly! Firing Olson means nothing. You don't fire the OC when players across the board are very unprepared to play week in week out
I don't know how I feel about this move except I think I should care more than I do. I'm with TC on this one. The product on the field the past two weeks is influenced by way more than just the OC.
I see this, as of right now, as a cutting ones nose to spite ones face type move but hopefully I'm wrong. We'll see, I reckon...

Interesting to read what other NFL Execs say about the Jags. Basically they said the Jags sound as if they are great organization that has won SuperBowls and Khan doesn't want to hear any bad news about his players or coaches. Maybe that's why he's reluctant to fire either Gus or Dave as that would be admitting HE is the one that made the mistake hiring them in the first place and wasting 4 years and hundreds of millions of dollars and numerous draft picks on players that aren't cutting it.
Oh well, firing Olson can't really do any harm, as things can't possibly get any worse. We've reached rock bottom, things can only get better. At some point, we've got to hire a competent GM/HC combo and draft a decent QB. Someday.....
Quote:Not necessarily.... a proper scheme and a sincere focus on the run can go a long ways toward improving a run game, and if the run game gets going, that would be a huge boost to the OL. With few exceptions like the Patriots OLs, most OLs don't like to drop back in pass pro virtually every play. Get the big guys going downfield, and it could open up a lot. Moreover, this may be precisely what Ivory needs to get going, and if Bortles arm is shot as I suspect, we'll need the running game to get going in a hurry. I disagree. At least not for us. I think more spread offense and hurry up possessions will open up the run as a compliment to our pass offense. That's basically what we did last year. We show less advertisements to registered users. Quote:He had a great one too with the Bucs current head coach. He didnt fire Koetter tho right, didnt Koetter leave on his own? Yes, it's improvement, but it's Blaine Gabbert 2012 level improvement. - Pirkster The Home Hypnotist! Media on the Brain Link! Quote:Peyton must store oxygen in that forehead of his. Olsen was a scapegoat. The entire coaching staff needs to go. Last week, while the offense was putting up a total of 60 yards in the first half, the defense was giving up 350 yards IN THE FIRST HALF.

Boy was I ever happy to see something happen, about time! The trip back from Tennessee was a quiet ride back to Jacksonville via charter bus.
It just bought some time to look like they were doing "something".
Just like my self... and most everyone else... is now going....ok, lets see what happens. Sad thing is......we pretty much KNOW whats going to happen. gus is still here.....so... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vmXWZFPvCAU

Last week, while the offense was putting up a total of 60 yards in the first half, the defense was giving up 350 yards IN THE FIRST HALF. First let me say that I completely agree with this sentiment. I have never seen that many uncontested explosive runs before. I mean my gosh. IF you are playing AP in his prime and he breaks 3 tackles you can kind of understand that, but there was a third and thirteen where DeMarco murray pulled up lame and he wasn't touched for 18 yards. It was the most pathetic performance that I have ever seen. It got called back for stepping out of bounds but you had some third string TE run through our whole defense. That CAN'T HAPPEN! It just can't. Had Shahd come out at the start of the third Quarter and told Bradley to get out of the stadium I would have had no problem with it. Having said all that... 1.) This game was so bad, that I think it could logically be placed as an Outlier for the defense. To this point in almost every game they competed and gave us a chance to win. I am not saying that as an excuse, that level of mediocrity and apathy should never be tolerated at the professional level, but at least to this point, it hasn't been a pattern. 2.) This was bound to happen. The defense has been over performing in the past few weeks keeping us in games we should have bene blown out of. When you go three and out that many times and allow the TOP and field position to become THAT SKEWED then there will eventually be a snowball affect and a good team will put up a couple TD's. The offense has scored I believe 6 points in the last 3 first halves combined. Blake has regressed this season, the receivers (aside from Marqise) have regressed. The running game is abysmal. This HAS become a pattern. This defense is based on essentially two rookies providing the bulk of the pass rush. We were going to need the O to take the bull by the horns and let them play with a lead in some games, convert third downs so they could be fresh, and not turn the ball over to put them in bad situations. We have failed pretty miserably in that regard. After a performance like that I have no problem with cutting bait with Gus, but at the same time I think it makes sense to see if we can give the offense some life and let things play out. Also, I think that this has a lot to do with the small miracle that we are only 2 games back in the win column. In reality, the gulf is a lot bigger than that we haven't played to our potential all year but I think it plays into the wait and see narrative. If we were 1-6 and the leaders in the division were 5-2 I don't think that Gus would be employed.
So can we now expect something other than a run up the middle after a first down incomplete pass?

In an odd turn of events, John Oehser seems to agree with the majority of the message board on the Olson firing.
