Tony Khan Asking Fans to Be Nice

#41

All of the other NFL teams are just laughing at us. We are the most soft team I have ever seen or heard. Players griping they are getting boo'd and now the owner's son and Senior VP is saying fans are being too mean. We look so badly, my lord. We are how we act; soft like cotton candy..........

That's what it seems like. And why I never caught onto it. It's rare that you can articulate a proper thought in 140 characters or less.

I don't think most people understand the full context of what was said.

Khan was called a name that would violate our rules to post or link.

His response was to a series of badgering tweets ending with one containing an unrepeatable slur.

I don't have a problem with him telling folks to chill that have gone beyond criticizing the team and into personally attacking Tony with a disparaging comment.

He really should take a break from Twitter. There are people on there that are [BAD WORD REMOVED] just because there is anonymity.  If you don't get that, then there is no way you can handle being on there.

Same with being a professional football player.  If you aren't going to play well, fans are going to boo you.  If you don't like it, play well.

Edit:  Pirkster, the one response I saw was to someone calling him a nerd, not to someone calling him a racial slur or anything worse than that.  If it was something derogatory I would completely agree, but I see people on this message board called worse than a nerd on a daily basis.

I do agree that there are lines that should never be crossed even on social media.

He is so tone deaf, it is stunning.

This tweet from a few months ago was one that got me.

This is what happens when someone buys the team who knows nothing about American football. Ask any other owner in the NFL Khan, if you put a crappy product on the field and act like everything is just "peachy", the fans are going to call you on it. An NFL owner needs thick skin and that's not Khan.

He'd have been better off just not responding at all.  By responding, he's giving them a bigger platform, and opening up a can of worms that culminates in a thread on the official MB.

Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

Eh. Find me a person in the public spotlight that is on Twitter that does not have inflammatory things sent in their direction.

But acknowledging it publicly like he did accomplishes nothing.

Trolls thrive off it.

Fine, I'll go ahead and post the comment to give proper context...

"what does math say about starting 0-2 [BLEEP]"

THAT was what he was referring to, not all fans.

Just one who went beyond team criticism and into personal attacks.

It was a SPECIFIC response to a SPECIFIC tweet.

Outrage?  Soft?

Soft would better describe the reaction to his tweet without knowing the context.

Tony needs to read my Playoff Run thread !!

Some of us fans know this team will get turned around this week !!!

We'll be hosting a playoff game in 11 weeks !!

I agree he should have ignored it and/or blocked them.

But I don't fault him for the response he did make.  He was being kind and civil, particularly in light of how he was treated.

WHAT A [BLEEP] [BLEEP]!!

Grow a back bone will you? Just man up and start apologizing to your fans that keep your sorry turd of a franchise afloat within the giant septic tank you call a front office and coaching staff. If you can't handle some "name calling" you're in the wrong business.

He should have just muted them and moved on.

Admitting that they hurt his feeling and posting a screen shot of it is not a good look. And that is how trolls get off.

Tony Khans position in life and the Jaguar organization should automatically prohibit him from being trolled into responses on Twitter. I had always assumed he was in his 20's and was going to chalk this up to immaturity, but looks like he is in his mid 30's.

I've never been one to tweet players nasty things. But it is totally ok to boo them on the field, especially when they've been playing as bad as they have.

Hahah that's it?! That's what was said?!

My god... I've seen far worse said on twitter. Specifically to women in Twitter. Tell him to go look at Michelle Beadles timeline and then see if it's so bad.

Get a grip Tony.
