That being said I believe the next paragraph implies that there will be times and situations where picking up a premium FA may be in the cards:

I agree that we will sign a big time FA at some point, just not this year in my opinion. Alex Mack is a player that makes sense because he will solve our center problem for like 7 years but I just can't see it happening this year, as much as id like it too.

I read it as you did. I think when Caldwell said "Our plan is to find..." What he actually meant was "Our plan was to find...", hence ending the quote with "that was the plan."


That's my best guess anyway.


I think it will be like the Falcons, whose roster is overwhelmingly made up of draft picks, but they went out and got Tony Gonzalez and John Abraham during Caldwell's time there.
