Quote:That sucks, man. It really does. Are you buying a crate motor or rebuild? A scrap yard like Rusty Acres has salvaged motors that came out of wrecked vehicles that were low-mileage. However, they're Ford focused. You might be able to find something similar for Dodge that won't cost as much. Thanks homebiscuit. Probably going with a remanufactured.
Quote:Have you thought about just replacing the head (about $200 used)? I considered doing this but the kit to rebuild it was 425. Plus if I do one head, I kind of have to do the other. So that would be another 400, plus labor. So that would be around 1100. And who knows what else is damaged. By the time we tore all that down it just makes more since to spend the extra money and think long term and go with a refreshed motor. Thanks for all the feedback guys. And who knows what else is damaged.I don't know if you're going with a rebuilt or a new long block. When the motors apart doing the heads, add a crank kit (or just rods and mains) and rings and you've got your own rebuilt. I'd replace the oil pump and timing chain too. Just a thought that might save you a few hundred. Good luck whatever you do. PS Don't forget a good radiator flush while you've got it apart.

Sucks, man.
I always thought the Dodges looked cool, but I'm totally afraid of their long term reliability. I'd fix it and get rid of it. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
Quote:Sucks, man. Totally agree. I owned two of them, a 1995 Ram 2wd that had the transmission let loose with less than 100k and a 2003 Ram 4wd that lasted mechanically, but had way too many of the cheap plastic parts let loose. I own a 2015 Ford F-150 Lariat now that I'm very pleased with. It gets WAY better gas mileage than my Dodge got, has an equal amount of power and torque and is very comfortable. There are 10 kinds of people in this world. Those who understand binary and those who don't.
Quote:Sucks, man. Dodge has some very nice styling, but I've always equated owning one with dating a stripper; it looks good on you, but don't expect it to stay faithful.

There are some things in life that are really only meant to be temporary, once you have figured out what those are you will have a much more peaceful life Of course figuring out what those things are isn't the easiest thing to do and a lot of times when you find out it's already too late.
I survived the Gus Bradley Error.
