So what should we do at QB next season?

Quote:No way to a 2nd round pick for a 37 year old who hasnt played a full since what, 2014? with that contract?

And im pretty sure a trade would screw up their cap, but a cut before june 1st(?) would save them a lot and is doable. But i could be wrong on this someone can fact check this.

The way you described the June 1st situation is the way it used to be.  I'm not sure if that's the case still,  as the salary cap rules have changed significantly this decade.

Though I don't think Tony Romo is worth a 2nd Round pick,  desperate times sometimes lead to desperate measures.   The 49ers and Jets organizations don't remind anyone of the Patriots, Steelers,  Packers,  or Ravens organizations.    A quick fix wouldn't be shocking,  at least on this end.

The very very best scenario outside of Khan trading for romo and buying him a titanium spine, is Jay cutler

I dont think that sounds super appealing to anyone.

Quote:If you're bringing Garoppolo, it's going to be to start since it'll cost you some good draft picks.

Especially,  since the Patriots have plenty of trade leverage.   His contract isn't going to cost them much under the cap in 2017.

Yep and despite the fact that Brady says he intends on playing for a while, they likely see him as an heir apparent.

I don't think the answer is in this draft. I also don't think the long-term answer will be available via a trade or free agency, perhaps outside of Garoppolo.

But the team does need to bring in a veteran to compete with Blake and/or take over if he fails.

Some QBs that may potentially be available via some route include:

1) Jay Cutler

2) Tony Romo

3) Jimmy Garoppolo*

4) Sam Bradford OR Teddy Bridgewater

5) Colin Kaepernick/Blaine Gabbert (cough)

6) Case Keenum

7) Brian Hoyer

8) Kirk Cousins (longshot, I suspect Washington will sign him)

9) Ryan Fitzpatrick

10) Nick Foles

11) RGIII (please no)

Bringing in Bridgewater to replace Bortles would be pretty hilarious given that they came out of the same draft class. Other than him and Jimmy G., I don't think any of those players represent anything more than a stopgap. Trying to fix Bortles may very well be the best option. The Franchise Quarterback Tree is not in season.

*including Jimmy G. because Belichick would probably let him go if the compensation is in his favor -- otherwise I think it makes sense for them to groom him as Brady's eventual replacement

I like the idea of Rivers.

I do like the fire Rivers brings to the game. He actually acts like he cares about winning and isn't afraid to let his teammates know it. Unfortunately, he's 34 years old and will be 35 next month, so I don't know how much longer he will be able to play.

The only people that could in any way make sense for a romo trade are the Jets and Broncos. But even then, the jets team is pretty young and is on the way to a top 10 pick, and the broncos just dropped a first on Paxton Lynch. Besides the fact that neither of their cap situations could fit Romos contract, Id think theyd rather keep their picks and money intact and just build toward the future. Neither are really teams that have expiring talent and a closing windown imo.

His age is irrelevant, with this team and an average coach Hed walk us right into the super bowl. But hes not going anywhere so we should give up on that pipe dream asap

Before we make any drastic moves at QB, shouldn't we at least find out what we have in Brandon Allen? I really liked this kid coming out of Arkansas. He's a rookie and he hasn't even been given a shot and people are acting like he's not even a factor. I don't know if he's gonna be a quality starter or not, but I'd like to find out.

Quote:work on fixing bortles. That's my suggestion. I like him, but he needs to spend quality getting better at mechanics. He's too young, and has the potential to be great, had the stats/passed eye test last year.

Look man, even when he played well last year he was turning the ball over wayyyyy too much. Without even looking I'm absolutely sure he's led the league in turnovers over the last 3 years, or at least damn close. There's no fixing Bortles. That release might could get sped up a bit, but there's no way he's going to be able to fix his problems in time to be kept around here as a franchise QB. The ship has sailed on Bortles.

Teddy Bridgewater's knee makes him a huge question mark in 2017.

I would be very surprised if the Vikings would be willing to trade either of the two QBs,  knowing Sam Bradford's injury history and that Bridgewater is under contract through the 2018 season.

Agreed. Bortles should have had 4 interceptions today.

Yes, cutler. Strong arm, non goofy throwing motion.

If we hire McDaniels, we'd likely get Brissett before Jimmy G, being he'd be easier to acquire and also had scheme familiarity. Is he a starter in this league ? I'm not sure.

I forgot about Kirk, might be the only intriguing option and thats not a great option either tbh.

But in an ideal world if you could get Josh Mcdaniels offense in here with kirk and establish a dominant run game(Hello leonard fournette) to take the ball out of kirks hands we might have a respectable foootball team.

The answer to the OP is back to the drawing board. Bortles is broken.
