Greed vs. Captialism

#1

The greatest lie of the 20th century is that Greed & Capitalism are inherently synonomous.

Greed: intense and selfish desire for something, especially wealth, power, or food.

Capitalism: The private ownership of the means of production.

Thanks to our public education system we have successfully demonized the word PROFIT.  We have cast entrepeneurs and for profit entities as Demons out to feed on the souls of consumers usr their ATM cards as conduits.  Anyone who knows the history of not only this country but the world knows that this couldn't be any further from the truth.

Greed, is a potentially universal construct.  The owner of a company may be greedy, just like a central regulator or minister of industry can be greedy in a socialist or communist economic system.  As Adam Smith put it plainly, we don't allow the butcher to own his own shop and make his own way because we rely on his good nature.  We rely on his self interest.  If a butcher doesn't provide quality product to his clientell then they will go to the buthcer accross the street.  If a consumer decides that there is a lack of options in his or her market, THEY CAN DECIDE to become a butcher, cook, delivery person, construction worker, etc. etc. etc.  The point is not to allow a few to monopolize the means of production for their own use, but to provide a means of escape and oppurtunity for all consumers and potential entrepeneurs.

Consider the alternative.  If all of a sudden we had a NATIONAL BUTCHERY what incentive would that government sponsored chain have to innovate, grow, and provide better service for the customer?  Just look at government services.  What alternative tax collection agency do you have to the IRS if they don't answer a question fast enough.  IF you don't like a ruling that the EPA made what's the alternative agency that you can have regulate your waterway or your job site?

In Russia, Venezuala, etc. you have countries with inordinate levels of poverty for the average citizen despite in some cases INORDINATE natural resources.  Centrally planned monopolistic economies don't provide post racial egalitarian utopias.  More often they provide shortages of goods services and capital to all except an elite oligarchy that puts on the Jay-z concerts.

In a nutshell, profit is made from adding value.

Those who add no value can't understand that concept, and is why they also do not understand profit.

They think it simply comes from a "stash," from which it should be confiscated and spread around a little.

Which is funny, because in real life Robin Hood would be taking issue with the IRS, not fleecing the successful to pay for the country's burdensome ones.

And since the burdensome ones will always vote Santa Claus... keep everybody down and on the payroll and the D becomes permanent, dragging the country down creating more members that destroy/consume wealth instead of creating it.

And don't capitalists destroy the environment, stifle or eliminiate competitors, and concentrate wealth creating large disparity between the rich, middle class and poor. What exactly has Capitalism made better. It's entire philosophical underpinnings are based on the exploitation of resources and workers. It is an unsustainable model.

Its like the 20th century didn't happen? Cuba is just a bastion of post capitalist egalitarian utopia and technological innovation.

No, everything you have today is because of Capitalism and Capitalists. That you think otherwise is a testament to your indoctrination.

lol...  obesity?  lol...  I didn't jog this morning because private citizens can own the means of production?  You're kidding right?

It's sad, but in reality I know that you really just don't know what you are talking about.  You don't really understand the three basic economic modalities, that's why you can't compare and contrast them.  You certainly don't know the history of centrally planned economies.  IF you did then you would understand that cronyism has nothing to do with true capitalism.

Oddly enough, your post does demonstrate how ineffective the centrally planned government run education is, so I guess there's that!

I actually have a theory about this.  There is a certain level of self loathing associated with the true nature of modern progressivism.  There is only so much drug sex and rock and roll you can advocate in culture without people developing repressed guilt.  It manifests itself in the form of financial masochism where they feel unworthy of the prosperity that western society generates.  Ironically, more often than not, even this masochism manifests itself in an inverse anti-social displacement that creates the SADISTIC need to control and or punish (through confiscatory taxation or regulation) OTHER PEOPLE!

They try to pigeon hole it as white guilt, but in reality it's success guilt. They can't deal with the fact that they have it good, so they create their own sense of self deprecation and fail to appreciate what they have.

Most, if not all of it.  Capitalism is the single greatest vehicle of prosperity for everyone.

If you can't see that, you've been bamboozled to the core.

Ever wonder why those things you mention happen with greater intensity in places that restrict capitalism?

The educated certainly don't.

If you had half a clue about what you're blabbering about, you'd know China is just one easy example.

You're like the Geno Smith of politics.  You're god awful by every measure, but in your own mind you're the greatest.

China is becoming increasingly Capitalistic and suffering from many of problems I outlined above, or maybe you think capitalism is a perfect economic model.
