If you had 1 million dollars, what is the first thing you would buy

Quote:Is that why you live in Jacksonville? All that sweet, juicy riverfront parking? When I worked downtown back in the day, I parked in the First Baptist garage and I think I paid like 40 something a month. That place was full and just doing the math in my head made me giddy. Almost zero overhead. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today! Quote:Paying bills off doesn't count. Quote:Id open another IRA and put half the money in it That would be quite the feat considering the maximum annual contribution you can make to an IRA is $5,500/$6,500 based on your age. Step 1:
Put it $900,000 on the Jags to win Sunday and $100,000 on the Jags to win the Super Bowl. Step 2: Sit back and get paid. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today! Quote:A private pilot's license and a helicopter certification. May I suggest flying lessons also?

What would I do with a million dollars?
The boring me (the real me) says I would invest the money in a secure, diversified, safe way, and have a nice, secure, safe retirement. My alternative self says, if I could avoid blowing the money on hookers and drugs (seriously), I would travel until the money ran out. Spend a little time in big cities, spend a little time in the country, see Europe, see the United States, just move whenever I got bored with wherever I was. I think a million bucks would finance about 10 years of travel. Of course, I am married, so the hookers and drugs thing is out of the question, but I am saying if I had ultimate freedom to do anything I wanted with the money... In reality, we spend so much of our lives desperately seeking money, and then when we get it, we spend the rest of our lives trying to keep it safe, and what have we accomplished? All we've done is bow down to the god of money. It's like the way we treat gold. We dig it up, melt it down, and then we lock it up in a vault and hire someone to guard it. What good is that? You really need to think seriously. When people tell you, "Don't waste your money." Which of these is wasting money: spending it, or saving it?

Quote:Yep, Self storage and parking garage ownership are a lifetime dream of mine.I have thought about this many times...Very little overhead, payroll, and maintainance and they are always full or nearly full...I bet the liability insurance would be quite high though Quote:Well there really are contribution limits but not sure about how much, if anything you can open it with.Yeah I knew about the annual contribution limits, and there is also a higher "catch up" contribution for people over 50 ( I thinks that's the age) to put more in...
