Bad year to draft OL?

Quote:I think the recipe for success is building a dominant offensive line. To do that, we must invest in interior linemen relatively high. The right side is the weakest of all and you'd address that last? Cann needs to go, as does Parnell. I'd put the replacement priority as RT, then RG, then LG. Of the three existing guys at those positions, only Omameh is worth keeping (and as a swing/backup) IMO. Parnell and Cann hardly got in the way of their opponents, it was like the Jags stood up practice dummies at RG and RT.

I know he played a lot of LG in college and was very good against SEC defenders. Maybe slide Cann to LG and draft a RG and RT. I think LG and RT are equally important.

A guy I have my eye on is Orlando Brown Jr, the son of the former NFL OT Orlando "Zeus" Brown, who famously get hit in the eye from Jeff Triplette's flag. Brown is 6'8" 340lbs and is the starting LT at Oklahoma. He is only a red-shirt sophomore so I doubt he comes out but it also wouldn't surprise me if he did.
I would love to have a mammoth like that playing RT for us. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
1st Cam Robinson (slide in at RT)
2nd OJ Howard (TE) great blocker also good as receiver 3rd Ethan Pocic Also address G in FA Pocic can play C, G, and even RT (iirc). You play your 5 best guys and the new coach staff hopefully uses them correctly. With Pocic the team has the option to move Linder back to G, if they feel it is best.
Quote:Personally, I'd trade down from a high pick and try to get either a couple of lower first round picks or a low first and a very high second. Then, I'd try to land two of the guards you named. From there, I target a RB and a Safety. If we have a high first round pick, we also will have a high second round pick. I doubt we try to land two guards in the same draft.
Quote:There are always solid lineman that can be found in the mid rounds. Bortles certainly does have "it." His arm and decision making definitely regressed, but he still knows how to keep plays alive when they break down. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
I like Beachum, but I don't think he has earned that 4 year $40 million option. I also doubt he re-signs if the team doesn't pick the option up, so think we'll be in the market for a new LT next year.
I've checked all the pending UFA offensive linemen in 2017. Does anyone have somebody that they really like that could be available?
Got to have a starting guard and both tackles could be upgraded imo.
Quote:Cann played LG last year. Right guard. He subbed for Brandon Linder most of the year.

He does not need to re-sign to stay in Jacksonville. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today! Quote:The contract structure allows us to cut him anytime without owing a cent. He does not need to re-sign to stay in Jacksonville. I was under the impression that he would be a free agent next year if we don't exercise the four year option. Also, if we do exercise the option, I think the $40 million includes some guaranteed money. I could be wrong though.

It is just preventing him from becoming a free agent next year. At this point I just hope Beachum plays well enough to keep the starting job so we don't have to start over with a rookie. Quote:Ronald Leary will be a FA. He would be a massive upgrade at OG. He lost his job to La'el Collins. I don't want any other team's backups. We tried that with Parnell and look what we got. I want quality starters.

Check again, Leary is starting for the most dominant OL in football. La'el Collibs would've been a top 10 pick if he weren't accused for mirdering someone, the fact that he was in a battle with Collins shouldn't be a slight to him. |
