Jadeveon Clowney

#1

When talking about quarterbacks such as Manziel, Bortles and Hundley one of the first things mentioned is 'they haven't declared yet', neither has Clowney.

What do you think the chances are that JC returns to South Carolina after having, what some call 'a down year'.

If there run on the QBs that is being projected happens, Clowney may not even be a top 5 pick and this may motivate him to return.

I personally don't think that he will but just an interesting thought.

At South Carolina's final home game of the season, they introduced Clowney with the seniors.

He's coming out.

There is a 0.0% chance he stays. According to Dan Pompei, he has worn out his welcome at South Carolina.

<div>"It has been well documented that Clowney plays and practices only when he feels like it," Pompei writes. "Other red flags with Clowney, according to multiple front-office men, are his unusual family situation, his entourage, his inconsistent work ethic and the fact that he has worn out his welcome at South Carolina. Some suspect he is motivated strictly by money, and a big payday could leave him too satisfied."

I know there are a lot of fake reports put out before the draft, but that is beyond concerning if it is true.

I don't know... I still feel like Clowney simply took this year off to not get injured. He and a lot of other people already know what he can do at the college level and he's ready to take it to the next. He didn't want to take any chances on suffering a major injury. Still, that is pretty concerning, but I also get it.

I'd be happy if the Jags drafted him. Gus will get the best out of him.

Just like he'll take a year off the year before his contract year....so he won't get injured before a big payday....no thanks to that kinda motor.
If that RV sales place wants Tebow in Jax bad enough to take out a billboard saying as much.....they should just HIRE him.

that's not how it works, contract year is the year you want to play your best

Agreed.

Lawrence Taylor wasn't the best practice guy, either.

Some of that stuff is overrated.  Some of that stuff can be overcome.

My thing is he has the innate talent to dominate.

I don't see him having problems in Jacksonville if we do draft him.

Not while a walking quote machine full of wisdom like Gus Bradley is head coach. I imagine the first sign Clowney shows of being an idiot, Bradley will present his situation in a different light.

That's why he said the year before his contract year.

I don't think he could stand another year of being double/triple teamed. He's been pacing himself for the NFL I expect. Avoiding injury.

Anyone know Clowney's "unusual family situation" that was hinted at in the quote?

Clowney is coming out, and will be drafed #1 overall.

Even if he is #2 pick, he is still looking at around a $14m signing bonus, with a combined package of around 4 years and $22-25m. With the new rookie pay scale, being a top 5 pick is still quite lucrative. I don't see Clowney staying at school and risking this type of payday. Also, waiting another year to enter the pros means that he is also waiting another year for the very lucrative second contract (if one plays well).

Clowney has more red flags waving than Red Square on May Day.

Not that I know much about his character, but from those quotes it doesn't sound like he fits into the whole "keep eating crumbs" mentality Gus is trying to instill.
