Coaching Candidates

Quote:Why is Tomlin a candidate? I think it would be crazy, but there have been grumblings from the fanbase/local media about firing him if they don't make playoffs. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
Quote:I think it would be crazy, but there have been grumblings from the fanbase/local media about firing him if they don't make playoffs.I dont think it will happen because the NFL has shown such complacency with coaches with any semblance of a resume. But it isnt all the crazy to me, hes a defensive guy and his teams defense is garbage. Im sure the players respect him but from an on the field standpoint i dont know what hes bringing to that team anymore, theyre repeatedly carried by that offense.
Why do I think that most people making these lists six years ago would have included Gus Bradley?
"We want someone with head-coaching experience" - i.e., "We want someone who has been fired for failing". Fact is, we don't have a clue how a particular person will interact with a particular group of players. And we certainly don't know how any of these guys interview. And we really don't know what type of person Shad Khan (and Caldwell?) is looking for. All we know for certain is that 50% of posters will want the new guy fired after his first year.
The sun's not yellow, it's chicken.
Quote:Why do I think that most people making these lists six years ago would have included Gus Bradley? What is the focus of your post? Are you trying to say we should stick with Bradley? Tom Coughlin was fired for failing. Then he was hired again and won 2 Superbowls. I think most fans that want previous HC experience really mean they want someone with previous experience as a winner as a HC. I'd offer a sig bet for your last statement, but I'm sure that short of a very large poll there would be no accurate way to measure poster opinions.
"We believe in victory!" - Gus Bradley
"I don't want to believe. I want to know." - Carl Sagan
Dave Toub once again has a top 3 special teams unit. I'd take a punt on him if the main guys don't want to come here.

Coughlin is on with Jeff and Dan right now and they asked if he wanted to coach again and it sure sounds like he wants back in to me. He also said that he would like to run a NFL team as long as it is the "right situation".
Again, is anyone going to be surprised if Coughlin is hired as either our next HC or the President of Football Operations like Bill Parcells was with Miami. Based on his interview, he really seems open to the idea of the football management side. I could see Khan giving the reins to Coughlin and let him pick a HC and GM (if Caldwell is let go).

How is Coughlin's health these days? He's no spring chicken.
Have you seen my baseball?
Quote:How is Coughlin's health these days? He's no spring chicken. That is the only thing that gives me pause with him. Prior to his interview this morning, I thought he still stubbornly wanted to only be a HC but this morning he sounded more opening to transitioning to other things. He definitely still wants to coach but he sounded real open to the idea of running a team as opposed to coaching one. I can see Coughlin picking a coach and then having Dave and the new coach answer to him. Would be nice to have Coughlin keeping people in check. We show less advertisements to registered users. "Before you criticize a man, walk a mile in his shoes. That way, if he gets angry, he's a mile away and barefoot."
Quote:As long as he's barred from touching the salary cap. And he has no say on any draft picks after Round Two.
I'm trying to make myself more informed and less opinionated.
Stop saying whatever stupid thing you're talking about and pay attention to all the interesting things I have to say! Quote:As long as he's barred from touching the salary cap.

How irrational is my fear that we're just going to end up with Marrone next year?
Quote:And he has no say on any draft picks after Round Two. I think we've hit it right here. Hire TC for Rd 1, Shack Harris for Rd 2, keep Dave for rounds 3 and beyond. Quote:How irrational is my fear that we're just going to end up with Marrone next year? If Caldwell is retained I could see that happening. They would keep Hackett at OC and try to fix Bortles. He may look to bring in his own guy at DC though. Is he a 3-4 or 4-3 guy?
