Who do you think we drafted this year? Have you watched those guys play? Real Jaguars fans know we don't need one.

Real football fans know teams can only have 53 players at the same time and a very small percentage can be edge rushers.

So how many edgerushers should we have, Mrs. Real Football Fan (who thinks Malik plays NT)?

There is no reason to keep picking on me for mentioning Malik Jackson in a post about not needing nose tackles. I even said I always knew Jackson is not a nose tackle. Drop it immediately.

We should have the same number of edge rushers we have now. There are no vacancies at the position.

We shouldn't draft an upgrade for Chris Smith? Terrible logic.

I clearly stated I always knew he is not a nose tackle multiple times.

Do you just want to argue with me?

Yannick is good, but theres two defensive end spots and Fowler hasnt played well enough to pass on a superior rusher either. Pass rush is the most important thing on defense and the second most important aspect of the game and we only have two good rushers at the moment so yes it is a need.

Related to what you mentioned,  one key reason the Broncos have a differential type of Defense is they have 4 edge rushers that can impact a game regularly.   Not only do they have depth in case of injury,  as was the case when Demarcus Ware was out.   They also have more of a luxury than most teams in being able to keep their edge rushers fresh.

My take is a team is far better off having one too many good edge players in the front 7 than one too few.   Much like with starting pitchers in baseball.

We definitely need an edge rusher to pair with Yannick, but I still want to trade down and add more draft picks. I think a solid pass rusher like Jordan Willis of Kansas State can be had in the middle rounds of the draft.

If either Garrett or Allen are available they should be a Jag. Still afraid they go 1-2

Yep if one of them are on the board it should be as much of a no brainer as Ramsey was.

The problem is drafting an extra edge rusher would limit our ability to upgrade another position of need, not because of reluctance to trade down but the fact that only 53 players can make final cuts.

I realize you are reluctant to want to talk about the draft prematurely. I can certainly respect that.

But who would be your top two targets currently?

I think it's worth considering 3 reasons why it's imperative to stay ahead of the curve at DE ? Edge Rusher:

  1.  It's one of the most impactful / differential positions in the NFL.

  2.  Injuries are more likely than not by the time the regular season starts.  A team needs a viable contingency plan at such an important position.

  3.  A GM can't by myopic.  You have to be proactive when it comes to eventually Free Agency.   One way to do that is have a continuous pipeline at DE.

the amount of players on a rostwr doesnt really matter here since we have a lot pf bodies on the DL, one of them can be cut without any impact.

But other than QB it is still the biggest position of need on the roster. We are bottom in the league in pressure % when only rushing 4 men.

Currently I would think about position priorities before naming two targets. It might be easy to say let's pick Myles Garrett because he is a pass rusher, but is DE our top priority? That is why I put off listing draft crushes.
