Coaching Candidates

Quote:I don't want to be the Seattle south. I want to chuck this wonky hybrid system and go to a conventional 4-3 or 3-4 scheme. If we do that, I believe the defense will be even better than this year. I'd much rather get an offensive minded head coach though, because we've made great strides on defense, but our offense has back slid. I want to bring in a guy that I believe can coach up the offense. Jim Bob Cooter and Kyle Shanahan would be my top picks by far. I really like what both guys have done, re-invigorating their current QB's. I was hoping they'd be able to do the same thing here.
I think we have to keep in mind that LA will get their pick of HC. It's a better draw for a guy looking to make a big name.

Quote:Is he an over-rated DC?  I'm not so sure...  I like his aggressive philosophy and his type of attitude would make our defense nasty!!!

As for McDaniels, again, he intrigues me.

I live in NM, so I see alot of Denver stuff all the time.  McDaniels has a lot of baggage from his time in Denver.  He basically blew up that team.  But, with that said, he was a very effective game day and preperation/adjustment coach.  What his downfall was that he tried to play GM from the HC position.

If he's learned to stay in his lane, I could see him being a very good HC.

I think he's the type of HC that we could actually get.  Let's face it, we're not getting a top tier HC.  McDaniels would be right there in the head of the pack of the 2nd tier of HCs that has alot of potential.

I'd rather have Jim Bob Cooter or Kyle Shanahan. I believe those are realistic targets.

God help us.

Edit:  I just hope you're wrong.  I think McDaniels is chomping at the bit to get another shot at HC.  I think we'd be a good fit for him.  2 pretty good TEs...  3 WRs that are serviceable.  Walters is a Welker/Edleman type possession receiver.

And then he could get a DC in here to really take the reigns of the defense so he could focus on the offense.

I don't want to take a shot at another Coordinator that has no HC experience in the NFL...

I know I'm probably just over-hyping McDaniels, but the more I think about it, the more I like the idea.  The guy has spent a ton of time learning under the Patriot-way...  That's gotta account for something...

I don't understand the love for McDaniels. He wasn't just fired because of wins and losses he was a head case who traded away anyone with a big personality (like Ramsey)

Add to that the fact the hooded one has never had any of his coordinators be successful and it's a bad idea in my opinion.

Oh and we have bad luck with Broncos cast offs.

Agreed. He'd also probably talk the team into drafting the next Tim Tebow, like he did in Denver. We don't need that.

I just mentioned all of this.

He blew up the team because he thought he could be the gm while head coaching.

That was a disaster.

But his actual x's and o's were formadible. He was a very good head coach that had a God complex that destroyed the team.

If he understands that he needs to just stay in his lane and not get involved in the player acquisition decisions, he could be a very good head coach. The key is to determine if he's learned from his mistakes in Denver.

Didnt you hear? No second time coach has ever learned from their mistakes. They are all failures.

I'm not necessarily a McDaniels fan, but in defense of him regarding running off big personalities the main one he ran off was Cutler wasn't it?  I don't think most people would have a problem with that.

Though we seemed to have fared well with Malik Jackson, generally I agree with this post.

He also ran off Brandon Marshall, and also had issues with D.J. Williams and Champ Bailey even benching Williams at one point just cause he felt like it.

D.J. Williams even talked about him not connecting with the players while he was head coach in an article.

It's well known he acted like a tyrant coach. Cleary he made missteps as he was trying to tear down that team on order to build them back up.

For all his personelle failures, his team that was lead by a terrible qb won a playoff game against Pittsburg.

If he has learned from his mistakes he'd be a pretty darn good x's and o's coach. And he's not a frozen yogurt with toppings type coach, either.

If Kyle Shannahan brings along his dad, I'd be cool with that.

I have a strong feeling it will be Mike Smith, Marvin Lewis (I think he gets fired) or another HC who gets canned this offseason.

The Broncos were 8-8 his first year and 3-13 in his second year and middle of the pack in offensive stats. He was down right awful as the Rams offensive coordinator.

Outside of New England he's be average to below average to garbage.

Oh, good Lord, not Marvin Lewis! People here in Cincinnati want him gone. He is spineless and lets the players do whatever they want to do. If you guys think Gus was soft, Lewis is in the exact same mold. Cincinnati is way too talented to keep losing over and over in the first round of the playoffs and now they aren't even going to the playoffs. That can be attributed to Lewis' lax, undisciplined style of coaching. He "lets the inmates run the asylum."

Bengals have had some really bad luck going into the playoffs the past 4 seasons or so. No Dalton, No Green, No Atkins.... However, they did make the playoffs 6 straight seasons in what some would call the best division in football. They won the division against the Steelers and Ravens.

I wouldn't mind Lewis here at all. This would be similar to when the Eagles wanted Reid gone and then look what happened in KC....

I don't remember the Chiefs going to or winning a Superbowl in all the years Reid has been there.

This season could be their best chance.
