Quote:So you think I should not even reply to good posts simply because jokes are told in the same threads? Got it.

I'm curious about something here. Isn't the "Got it" part of this statement meet the sarcastic tone you say you have difficulty understanding?

Honestly, my opinion is that you know or reasonably believe someone is being sarcastic but choose not to adjust but expect others to conform to your lifestyle.

Quote:Try your best not to call others "stupid" or "idiot"
...it would probably go a long way toward you gaining the same respect.

That's my advice...take it or leave it.
tell that to the rest of the board too then!

I have talked about a friend of mine whom I have known all my life who has the same disease...I have talked about it extensively in another thread a long time ago...I have a good knowledge of Asperger's...The best thing I can say to help shed some light on this is that persons afflicted by Asperger's are ruled by logic (as they see or understand something)...  Most of you here are too young to know "Mr. Spock"  on the original Star Trek series or the entire Vulcan population who are ruled entirely of logic... If something makes no sense to them afflicted by Asperger's it "can not be true" in their mind...as we have all seen sarcasm is lost on MJF and she rarely gets jokes especially tongue in cheek jokes...Once an Asperger's person understand something they can then use it such as phrases " Don't let the door hit ya on the way out" where we people would know it meant you can leave anytime ya want or leave quickly, Asperger's people would wonder why the door would hit them on the way out, and is one of those automatic doors that open and close themselves? I'm going to give one more example and leave it at that...If someone told a person with Asperger's "they kicked the cat across the street," they would drive themselves nuts trying to figure out if they kicked kicked a cat from one side of the street to the other, or if they walked across the street and kicked a cat...and now she is saying to herself, why would someone kick a cat anyway....

Many of you here bait her, to say something you consider stupid just so y'all can jump on her, just like y'all did to TMD then complain about him firing back...

The bold red part i highlighted is a prime example...There are many posters on here including Mods who are always calling people stupid, and idiots if other posters don't agree with their own position, but no one tells them to stop doing that...Why just tell MJF not to do that?

She made this thread because she wants to find out why people jump on her and are very rude to her...Everyone can see that...Yeah she comes across as rude on occasion but we have cognizant ability to see and understand, she does not, and as many rude comments and insults that are thrown around on this board, MJF is far from alone in that category by people who KNOW they are intentionally being jerks...When a person sees people throwing insults and name calling a bazillion times, Asperger's tells her, Oh this is what we do here...

What does "meet the sarcastic tone" mean?

I was being serious. However there are some times (not nearly enough, obviously) when I can read sarcasm. Not in that post.

Maybe because no one else is complaining about it, or continuously hijacking threads when it happens? You call me stupid or I call you stupid, we might comment on it and then move on, we don't take over the thread demanding to know why you did it. That's the big difference.

Good post wrong. I do understand a lot of idioms. In fact I often used "drive me nuts" on this forum. I also use "pain in the butt." Kick a cat across the street is a new one for me though. And for the life of me I can't figure out "knock on wood" if nobody explains it. You hit the nail on the head about logic ruling my thought process, however. If something does not make sense, I get mad.

Fortunately you are not one of the people I have seen others call stupid.  Smile

This is a description and origin of the 'knock on wood' idiom.

Maybe it will clear it up for you.

It has been complained about many times and everyone just says you gotta have thick skin...The other part of the story is why should there have to be complaints? People know its rude to that, personally I would call it a personal attack when someone attacks the poster like that instead of attacking the message posted...Mods even call people idiots and stupid so how well do you think complaining will work? Every single thread gets off track, most find their way back to the topic, but there are always posts off topic in every thread..

lol yeah my friend will get all kinds of mad when he doesn't understand somthing...as for idioms, you can always google them for an understanding...

" <a class="" href='http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=knock+on+wood&defid=1462637'>knock on wood</a>

1. A phrase used to express that something will or will not happen. This expression alludes to the ages-old superstition that literally knocking on wood would ward off evil spirits."

There is always something we can do about it. Report the so-called idiot!

I regret not doing that until it was too late.

Go back and read his post and look at what he highlighted. When someone highlights (bold) part of a post, that's the part they are replying to.

it makes no difference reporting someone when they call you and idiot...I have reported posts like that and nothing ever comes from it, even when they say "you're an idiot"

If that's the entire content of a post, it draws a warning. Always remember warnings are issued confidentially.

I have never seen so many logic fails by someone supposedly ruled by "logic."

I suppose if the false logic is defeated by an argument, then that argument is deemed false on its face, and therefore summarily rejected, to uphold whatever false belief/false logic that's being adhered to.  At least, that's what I gather from observing the rejection of the notion of ever being wrong.  About anything.

The great convergence of confirmation bias and false logic.

It may help you to know someone with Asperger's.
