Marcedes Lewis

Yeah I am so convinced that people up north know more about football than me. I see Giant and Jet fans at the sports bar and they cheer for 1 yard gaines as if they just witnessed the immaculate reception.

No they don't. That actually seems closer to the truth here on the gameday thread.

One more word on Lewis before I leave this thread circling the drain....

Everyone knows he's inconsistent at times and likely isn't going to live up to his contract.  Big deal.  Who cares?

Fisch has figured out a way to get 4 catches and a TD out of him 4 weeks in a row while still having him block  on 70% of the snaps. What would he do if he only had to block on 30% of the snaps?   It's a question worth considering - especially if he will re-negotiate.

Ok - back to the stereotyping and name-calling......     I'm out.

Football fans everywhere for the most part are equally stupid.

Theres tons of stupid fans in New York. And from this board it appears there are many stupid fans in Florida. Theyre all being brainwashed equally by main stream media at the end of the day.

Quote:Lets not forget New York, where some of the smartest sports talk is broadcast, i.e. Mike Francesa for example.

Not "hating" but theres probably no question that the average football fan in NY or Philly and probably Boston is smarter than the average fan in Atlanta, Jacksonville or Carolina.

Fans from the southern cities seem incapable of bashing their own players, even when it is warranted. (unless its so beyond obvious like in the Henne & Gabbert cases) People in NY have no issue giving proper blame to their Jets or Giants.

Mike Francesa is your example of "some of the smartest sports talk?"

WHAT?!

I'm at a loss for words right now, honestly. You think Francesa's rantings and ravings are "smart?"  Wow.

Yes, Fisch has found a way....sigh...

You don't suppose it has anything to do with the recent easy schedule in the last 2 months of the season compared to the first 2 very difficult months, do you?.... :ermm:

I think you're smarter than that, NYC...

I worded that poorly.  I simply meant that he's fitting him into the passing game effectively while still getting good blocking from him.  (pass and run game)  Fisch and Bradley both commented on recent game planning for Lewis.  So - obviously the softer schedule plays a role - but so does the OC.  Fisch isn't doing anything brilliant with him.  Just using him correctly.  Something we haven't seen in at least a year and a half.

I dunno man....I remember him targeted in spots last year where he got himself wide open too....but in a lot of those instances the ball clanked off of his briefcase hands.

I think the difference now compared to then is merely that he is starting to worry about losing some benjamins. This guy only plays well when immediately motivated by money just like in his contract year.. He knows that he could be a casualty this offseason and he'll never get the kind of money Jax is currently paying him anywhere else, so now he's desperately trying to finish strong.

Ha. No. The people who call in to Francesa's show are usually as dumb or dumber than Francesa. His show is entertaining in an absurdist way, but if you actually want legitimate insight, you're better off banging your head against the wall for an hour. Francesa is a loud know-nothing who thinks he knows everything.

Quote:I've grew up in Philly. Lived in SF, LA, CT and Hawaii. I've lived here for the past 25 years. Although the most opinionated, they're probably, as a whole, the most knowledgeable. No slap in the face to southerners intended. Many of these people have NO life outside of their fandom. Many are basically true fanatics. Especially applies to many New Yorkers I've met. All they do is study and memorize. In the south, and Cali and Hawaii......there's so much to do.....there's no time to become a true fanatic. For instance, Hawaii could not support a team. People are outside doing fun stuff. Even LA with the 2nd biggest population has lost 2 NFL teams. Remember the character in the movie "Silver Linings" played by Robert DeNiro? What's funny about it is that that it is a true characterization of many fans up there. It's been passed from generation to generation. Don't you agree Mad Dog?

What you're describing is fanaticism, which has nothing to do with intelligence.

The South has more college football fanatics than you can shake a stick at, which doesn't mean they automatically have a clue. Which is why talk radio is so hard to deal with re college football. I mean there are people who actually care as to who might be the third string right tackle for the Gators.

Opinions don't matter if they don't make sense. And making them more intently doesn't make them better.

The sun's not yellow, it's chicken.

Let's not lump the "North" with the "Northeast". The Midwest (which is also includes Northern states like Wisconsin and Michigan) is nothing like the Northeast.

You mean those first 2 months of the season where he missed 5 games through injury? How much does he suck that he can't catch passes when injured!

Someone said it perfectly earlier. If this was a Superbowl bound team loaded with superstars an lacking in cap room, Lewis would be an obvious cut. As it is we are a crappy team with no superstars and cap room coming out of our ears.

oh, so since we have the cap room, then waste it. Gotcha.

If by waste you mean not cut the best guy we have at the position, then yes.
