Alualu was a good pick

#21

Quote:Blame that on Gene Smith, not Alualu.  He is what he is, and that is a solid defensive tackle.  Most defensive tackles aren't there to rush the quarterback and make dynamic plays.  They are there to fill gaps and stuff runs.  Alualu does that extremely well and he's a beast to move, and he does it at a pretty moderate price to the team.

Too many people here are harsh on him because of where he was drafted because of where he was drafted as if he controlled it.  Gene Smith screwed it up and he's been long gone.  It's time to move on and let that criticism die.

Sounds like you're one of those dudes that gets a handshake and autograph then defends the player to his grave.

You are to Alualu what spacecoastjag is to Bortles.

You do realize that different positions are more prone to get sacks, make more tackles, interceptions, etc...right?

I'm assuming you dropped out of middle school.

Trashu sucku was drafted to be an inside pass rusher. He's garbage at that. Probably the least disruptive player I've ever seen. He's just there. Abry Jones is 10x the DT Tyson is and we got him as an udfa.

Nobody is saying Alualu is an NFL All Pro, they are simply saying he is a better player than many on this board give him credit for.

Too many people on this board bring up where he was picked when people give him credit for being a good player.  You guys can't let that hate go.  If Alualu was the 2nd or 3rd round pick that he should have been he would be one of the most loved Jaguars, and well deserved.

How about you have a seat.

Do people just get to post anything? I swear us losing has made us like below average players. Way below average. He should have been a round 6 or 7 pick. And you happy about him being a "solid" player? He was picked 10th. 10th!!!!! OMG. I just dont get this. I really dont.

Any positivity is going to be shouted down.

Alualus professionalism and availability along with his average play is enough for a roster spot. Most players would have washed out with being heavily overdrafted with his ability but he kept at it. Atleast he flashes here and there. He has my respect.

17.5 career sacks isn't good. Is it his fault he was drafted 30 spots or more too early? No. Has he been a bust off the field? No. He's an outstanding family man. He's a high effort guy. He doesn't make a lot of mistakes on the field. But with that said, he's simply "just a guy" that's made one hell of a living being relatively quiet his entire career. He's basically Renaldo Wynn.

No, people rate him exactly where he should be. A player that's good enough to crack the 53, but he should have never been drafted in the 1st round. I don't see why he needs a heaping of praise for doing his job in a back-up/role player type of role.

Alualu never will live up to his draft spot. But that's not his fault. He was never supposed to go that high.

Yes he's a solid contributor who's definitely worth keeping around.

But I can't say he was a "good" pick being 10th overall. A good player, and worthy of a pick. Just not the 10th.

I don't think he would be a starter on most teams. At best a rotational player. I guess compared to Blackmon he is "good" but you have to admit we have set the bar pretty low for 1st round picks for the last decade or so.

This debate reminds me of Marcedes Lewis, another reach from 10 years back. He starts and we say he is good because we are terrible. Other teams would not start him or pay him like we have.

Calling Deshawn Watson a future bust since 3/19/17. If I eat crow, I will keep this in here and proclaim JackCity a genius.

Eh, I would chime in, but what's the point? I had a problem with people saying he was a good starting player. He's not a starter, and he's been a bust for a while now, I can't blame him for being a terrible starter when he's someone who doesn't see the field unless due to injury.

Plus, it finally seems this message board was able to read through the smoke being blown about him.

He's been an average starter throughout his career and a quality rotational guy.

Maybe not as good as you would want with that pick, but far from a garbage player as some try to portray.

He isn't a superstar, and he isn't total trash either. I'm not going to bother talking about his draft selection, because what's the point?

He busts his butt and does whatever the coaches ask of him. Getting sacks isn't always what's being asked of him.

I have zero problem with him holding down a roster spot.

Who is heaping praise on Alualu?  People are simply saying he isn't an awful player like many here are saying.  The people here that are talking trash about him have no clue.

By the way if you compare JPP's sack total to Alualu's sack total you know nothing about football.
