Coaching Candidates

Oh, I forgot to mention - Bill Barnwell has an article (espn.com, I think) ranking the desirability of possible openings for coaching changes.

He ranks Jacksonville 5 out of 10 possible. LA is 10 (worst).

The places ranked better than Jax are there primarily because they have a better QB situation. He does recognize that there are certainly some assets which will make the Jaguars job enticing.

Interesting, if nothing else.

For what it's worth,  I think the Bears would be crazy to fire John Fox.   Despite a multitude of injuries and some key suspensions,   the Bears are a much better team now than early in the season.   Even in a relative strong Division,  if they even get decent QB next season,   they could realistically be the surprise team in the NFC.

I would take John Fox with a lobotomy in a heartbeat over gus bradley.

Coughlin when asked if winning will be a focus: "What the hell else is there? This is nice and dandy, but winning is what all this is about."

Called it.

This article mentions two "second tier" candidates not on my list above... Dave Toub (Chiefs ST) and Vance Joseph (Dolphins DC).

The Colts came out and said they won't be making a coaching change which in turn puts the Jaguars in the #4 spot.

Dave Toub would be excellent imo

Vance is kinda young/inexperienced but i think hell be a good HC in a few years.

If John Fox became available,  at the very least the Jaguars should try to set up an interview ASAP,    IMO,  Fox has a keen eye for quality Assistant Coaches.

It wouldn't shock me if things change if the Colts don't finish this season well.

As good as the Bears Defense was at times when Lovie Smith was their HC,   I thought more often than not,  their Special Teams under Dave Toub were their strongest unit.

Hes only had a special teams unit ranked outside the top 5 once or something like that. Consistently amazing groups. Read that he uses his spare time getting time with both sides of the ball learning as much as he can and is extremely well respected. He deserves a job and id love him.

Yeah him becoming a good HC is more a matter of when than if. Arguably the greatest special teams coach in the history of the NFL.

I'll take the one, the only, the inimitable Marv Levy.

Any team that's looking for a HC should at least try to interview Dave Toub.   It makes no sense for an accomplished Special Teams Coordinator to be overlooked in the HC search process,   yet this happens much more often than not in the NFL.

Two of my other favorites are the late Frank Gansz Sr. and Chuck Pfeifer . Both have sons that became Special Teams coaches.

I thought the Bears already said Fox is coming back?

I agree. They need to give Fox time.

They need to show Cutler the door (and maybe the GM that gave him that contract)

If they keep retooling that D and add new blood to their QB they'll be competitive in that division next year, imo.

I think it'll be GM to go if they make any changes.

Rather.. should be...

Although I think some clot fans are just as tired with Pagano as they are Grigson
