Now that the season is finishing up, he is starting to have some reservations about him (his size) despite saying he'd still draft him.

 

Wanna bet as the months go on, TMD lists a few other reservations to hedge his bets either way.

 

If he succeeds, TMD will say he called it.  If Teddy busts, it'll be because of the "reservations" listed by TMD.  It's fun.

When I look at Teddy, he looks taller/bigger than Mark Brunell - who was listed at 6'1 and 217 lbs most of his career.

 

I think Teddy will be about 6'2 and 210 lbs.  Not big, but doesn't necesarilly have to be.  It's not like he's a running QB like RG3 or Manziel.

A QB who is 6'1" gets discounted immediately by scouts because Drew Brees is a rare exception. In the last 10 years we've had 2 short QBs be successful in the NFL and teams will not risk a high pick on a guy who doesn't fit the template. Assessments of players are based on their weaknesses because NFL coordinators are adept at forcing you to do what you aren't good at, and a guy who doesn't do anything exceptional doesn't last.

 

Edit: I'm not saying TB is a guy who doesn't do anything great, just talking in general terms.

He is too short and skinny lol. Same complaint people have now about Bridgewater. So we can't say one is better than the other because of his size.

 

Every year people do this.During the season, somebody is hailed as one of the best players. After the bowl games, everyone says something bad about him. How do the players typically pan out in the NFL after that happens?

Bridgewater is a twig compared to Brunell. 

 

Brunell may only have been 6'1 or 6' 2" at best....but he was solid. Like 215 or 220. His legs weren't the toothpicks that Bridgewaters are. Brunell also was extremely strong for a QB. I think I read somewhere that he was a gym rat and big into the weightlifting back in his Jags playing days.

I read Mark Brunell was one of the NFL's strongest players.

 

So maybe Teddy is tall enough and just needs to spend more time in the weight room.

But its all about the frame. 

 

Bridgewaters frame is small. WHen you have a small frame, you can lift weights all you want, and the results are not only going to be limited, but you could set yourself up for an increased chance of injury if you overdo it. The frame can only support so much for what its built like. I hypothesize that a lot more of these injuries you see in the NFL today compared to the past is from overtraining past what your frame can handle. For those with naturally bigger frames, its less of a concern. Bridgewater's shoulders are very narrow. His bone structure is thin. He's 21. His frame isn't getting any bigger at this point. 

 

Granted, as you say, smart QB rarely take huge hits, so its possible that he (like Joe Montana, for example) will be able to enjoy a relatively major injury free career, for at least most of it. 

 

But it is at the least, a reasonable concern.

I don't see Bridgewater as being "underweight". Thats the point. For his frame - he's probably about where he should be at his age.

But here is the thing: If Teddy has all of the tools necessary to avoid a sack either by running out of the pocket or quickly getting the ball out of his hand, he can stay healthy behind an upgraded OL. I think his intangibles will help him compensate for any problems having a small frame might cause.
