I survived the Gus Bradley Error.
I feel bad for Gus as a person because he seems like a genuinely fantastic human being...but Gus the Head Coach had to go and really should have been fired last year. He simply was overmatched just about every week and it showed. His teams could never make the right adjustments and his scheme never worked here no matter who was on the field.
I wish him well in the future and hope that the Jags can land a head coach that can turn this team around. This fan base deserves it!

Yes, it does suck for him that he could not get the job done. He truly cared about the team and wanted to make it better. Maybe Gus was a misfit, but I would never consider him as a HC candidate if I was a GM. Quote:Yes, it does suck for him that he could not get the job done. You don't allow 4 losing seasons if you care about the team. Seeing how dejected his players were 48 times during those years and he can't figure out that his coaching staff was garbage and make changes? He was a yes man and never said no to anyone. I have no sympathy for people without a spine. You learn pretty early in life you can't be everyone's friend I'm surprised he's lasted this long in life in general.

Failing to make it better does not in any way indicate lack of desire. Gus Bradley talked about wanting to make the team better in his presser. We show less advertisements to registered users. Didn't feel like posting a new thread, but another damning incident with Gus according to Micheal Silver. Coughlin lobbied Gus Bradley to bring him onto his staff, as a consultant, accord to a source.
I'm sorry, but if you go into your 4th season with 36 losses in a make or break year, and a super bowl winner wants to join your staff in any way, YOU DO IT. Did Gus seriously think he couldn't have gained anything from a 2 time world champ? Did he think he was a better coach than Tom, or Tom wouldn't contribute to Gus's "process"? Good riddance Gus, glad you are not a Jag anymore. https://twitter.com/MikeSilver/status/81...8043015168

Thats like a guy struggling to get his marriage back on track, hiring Don Juan as a mediator between himself and his wife. So Tom can say "..back up Gus. lemme get in there. Show u how its done.."
You Gotta Be Able To Run Da' Rock~
I think Gus will bounce back and learn from this. I think if he has a new mindset on his coaching philosophy, and is more hands on with his defense, he can create a winner.
Unfortunate that it didn't work out, very sad to see a great man like Gus get fired. It's a results league though, and he understands that.
Here is what Gus needs to do: Take a couple more years to learn how to coach, be an assistant to a traditional winning coach/team. Hire smart people around you who are good at what they do instead of promoting your buddies, respect your players but don't go easy or be friends with them, hold them responsible for screwing up

Quote:Yes. So shut up. Now I'm interested. Please elaborate.
Great guy. Terrible head coach.

Not sad for the dude at all, He milked this job for 4 years, A better man might have stepped down.

Quote:Now I'm interested. Please elaborate. My CSB Was working in 1 of 2 positions when layoffs came. Didn't love the job but pay was good. They let me go and kept the other guy. During my 60 day window another division picked me up. FF 15 years and I run the division and love my job. The other department folded entirely and I hired the other guy for a while. I wasnt terrible at the other job, but it certainly would've kept me from this one without the layoff. This was not a good fit for Gus in his first head coaching job. Gus would have been much better off if he was coaching a team with veteran players like Puz who did not cause stupid penalties and finding themselves out of position while they learned how to play on an NFL level. While at the same time Gus was learning how to be a head coach. God bless you and your family Gus over this Christmass season. Your moral charactor is a bright shinning light that affects all who have people around you. It had to be very hard for Dave to fire you even with lack of success over your time here.
