Alternative to Romo
|
I'm not advocating this....just found it interesting. Some people are talking about bringing Romo in, but he's one shot away from retirement. How about Carson Palmer? If the Cards let him go, would any want to bring him in for a 2-3 year deal as a bridge? Either let Bortles sit and figure it out or draft/develop another QB. I think he could do good things with Robinson/Hurns/Lee.

Have you seen Carson Palmer play lately? He needs to retire. He's starting to remind me of Kurt Warner at the tail end of his career. He just can't make the throws he used to.
Haven't watched him too much, but I've noticed the lost zip that he used go have. He's still a solid bet for 4K yards and almost 30 TDs though. I'd take that for a couple years....assuming he isn't looking for Osweiler money, lol.

Palmer is done. The problem the Jags have is that there is a shortage of viable alternative. You're looking at guys like Glennon, Cutler, Romo (who won't come here).
Therein lies the issue: there's no real viable alternatives in the draft or FA. Allen is an unknown who was a 6th rounder. At best guess, you're looking at band aids like Palmer, Glennon, or Taylor if he makes it to FA. Would you rather Blake be back there throwing ducks again next year or bring someone who's a FA?

That's why as much as people may not like this, we may be reserved to drafting a late round guy as competition and sticking things out until the 2018 draft, when the QB crop should be much better. Sometimes it's best to have patience and do things the right way.
Qb quality in the NFL is at a really low point. Most starters are average at best, the backups wouldn't even have been in the league ten years ago vs the talent that we were watching then.

Given the mentioned alternatives, I'd rather draft a kid and see if the new coach can fix Blake enough to get us by. ![]() Fix the O-Line!
Off topic, but I am intrigued by Mike Glennon who is an actual free agent.

Any names that stick out to you?

Pete Prisco was intrigued by Kizer. Not saying he is a top 3 pick, but he was intrigued.
Quote:Any names that stick out to you? Honestly, I didn't watch enough college ball to have an informed opinion. there's Deshaun Watson, but he probably wouldn't make it to round 2. And I'm not sure his skill set translates to a successful pro attack. DC could try to make a trade for a quality backup like Garrapolo or McCarron. Either of them would be preferrable to this thin draft crop. ![]() Fix the O-Line!

He or Glennon are probably the best two options to add competitive depth at QB.
IT WAS ALWAYS THE JAGS

Garappolo would command to high a price for me, but McCarron is intriguing. Not too much of a college fan myself. I concur on the Watson assessment though. He looks like more streamlined Tajh Boyd....who didn't do much in the NFL.

I like mahomes as a potential steal.

Define: older reliable vet.
Tyrod Taylor, Jay Cutler, Fitzpatrick?....or a McCarron? Fair answer. People's personal definition of reliable is just that: "personal". Some would not consider Fitz reliable because he's bounced around the league, but he's thrown for over 25K yards and 160TDs. Others would say Glennon is "reliable", but he's only won like a third of the games he's started. Personally, I'd like to see Fitz or Carson if they're available.

Tyrod Taylor is a more polished version of Bortles. Great runner with a good deep ball. Doesn't turn the ball over much either.
