Can you not admit it is annoying preaching analytics when your team is a perennial dumpster fire? It's equivalent to that guy in the park who's jumper is off and he keeps telling you why.

You guys are completely missing the point. Following or unfollowing him does not change the fact that it is happening. If the analytics he posts are being used to manage this building of this team, they aren't working, and he should probably keep them personal until they do.

My guess would be as in most any business that analytics would be utilized only as part of the sum total to a decision on any matter. From what I have heard that is the exact way the team utilizes the information he provides.

I think you may be severely overestimating the degree to which his analytics have had impact on decision making for the Jaguars. 

 

He owns a third party data company that generates all of those weird stats and charts that annoy you so much. They are posted on social media to promote his company to sports franchises in various leagues more than they are to make you feel better about the Jaguars sucking. 

 

I would wager that out of the mountains of data he has processed and laid at the feet of the front office and coaching staff, only mere grains of sand from it were actually considered thoughtfully when making a personnel or game-planning decision.

The problem with analytics is that everyone seems to love to talk about them but very few, if any of those who love to talk about them, really understand them.

 

Most make the mistake of using them anecdotally, like a statistic.

 

They aren't useful at all until you can translate data to wins.

 

Otherwise, it's mostly an empty buzzword used to feign knowledge.  Data without understanding and analysis is just data.

Caldwell did not imply that Gus was not his choice.  

 

That comes from someone posting that Caldwell answered the question, "Would you hire someone you were not comfortable with?"   by saying "I did that with Gus."

 

But the question he was actually answering was, "Would you interview someone you were not familiar with?"  To which he answered, "I did that with Gus."

I calculated the 2 main reasons the Jaguars are losing and the results came back: Poor head coaching and below average QB play, with inaccuracy and INTs listed as the top 2 reasons for the below average QB play.

 

There were some other reasons listed, like a below average running game, which is overused on first and second downs, not using the TE properly, being in too many 3rd and long situations and turnovers which give the opposing team a short field to work with.

My stats says if you have no pass rush you can have revis, sherman, ramsey, berry, and, gipson back there.  All in prime and still can lose many games.  Disrupting the qb is the way to win more games.  That and being remotely able to score.

I have to agree.  Making decisions with data and using analytics was one of the most enjoyable time spent getting my MBA.

 

If his tweets are any indication of what he's doing... it's simply number crunching.  Data and statistical production alone.

 

There doesn't seem to be a robust analysis component, again... going solely off his tweets.

 

Which, is typical.  Everyone wants the greatest, newest, shiniest toy.  Just because you can obtain it, doesn't mean you know how to use it correctly.
