In relieving him now they in turn are allowing him to spend all that time with his family instead of a 100 hours a week at work. Plus he is getting paid no matter what to include all of next year. Never feel sorry for a millionaire.

It's just the way the calendar year falls.  The longer the season draws out the closer it gets to Christmas.

 

Coaches realize this when they take the jobs.  Even if you're a staffer, if your HC goes you know you're likely to go with him at season's end.

Seriously. If I got fired but still was guaranteed my whole next year's worth of salary (and that salary was Millions) I'd be bummed, I'm sure. But at the same time I'd take the family out on a nice vacation and kicked the ol' feet up for awhile before I started my job search. Gus been putting in long hours and been away from his family for a long time, it's gotta be a little be humiliating to lose your job, but at least he's got more free time for spend for a little bit. I'd get over it pretty quick, I highly doubt Gus is hurting financially at the moment.

It is literally one of those things that continually make you shake your head with the franchise. "Decision to fire him was made before game". Imagine if the Jags actually managed to hold on for the win and Gus was fired 1 hr after a win. Gus is in mid "We believe in victory" chant in locker room when he gets a quick text from Dave saying your fired lol.
