I'm not "blaming all these guys."  I merely speculated yet another theory that may have contributed to his issues.  I used the word "hunch." LOL. 

 

I've been openly critical of his fundamental shortcomings, skeptical of his mental game, and expressed concern he'll never be fixed.

My job involves performing on an instrument for large audiences and in recording studios under deadlines.  I had to hone a craft to become successful in my field. I actually did have 4 different teachers over 6 years that had varying methods. It set me back years in my development compared to colleagues of mine who had one really good teacher that helped them organize a concise technique.  Talent is a big part of the equation too, but a clear methodology aids in the fundamentals. I question him having that. 

 

Blaine Gabbert went through struggles and we changed OCs with him three times also. One of the things Caldwell talked about after Gabbert was that we didn't want to go through that with Blake. Yet, we did anyway. I think this speaks volumes.

 

We drafted a converted TE with a broken throwing mechanics who have little experience playing QB. Maybe his transition would have been better if we had an established QB ahead of him, an established OC and QB coach to teach him while he sits, a tremendous pass blocking OL in front of him when he did play, and other ideal scenarios around him.

 

Or maybe he's struggled because he's a converted TE with a broken throwing mechanics who have little experience playing QB.

You don't make any sense.  Your so called converted TE threw for 7,598 yards and had a 153 passer rating in his 3 years at UCF prior to him declaring early for the draft.

 

If you want to go back to Pop Warner, I heard the had Roethlisberger playing on the Offensive Line since he was the biggest guy on the team.  Imagine that, the Steelers playing a converted Offensive Lineman at QB.  How dumb is that.

I also agree with Jagwired that the more concerning thing in year 3 is the locking into coverage, not progressing through reads, and not locating open guys. That has nothing to do with mechanics or injury and we've seen very little improvement in that area, if any.


If it was just a matter of he's throwing badly because of an arm injury, I'd feel a lot better about his prospects.

After watching Allen Robinson last year, I know Blake Bortles does not need an open guy to complete some of has passes. Throwing to Marqise Lee in coverage is a totally different story. Lee needs to be open if Bortlesv throws to him. Often throwing into coverage is a bad decision but you have to credit the defense sometimes. Nobody can blame the quarterback on many interceptions and incompletions.

Sorry, I remembered wrong. He was a guy many recruited to be a TE, with UCF being the only one that allowed him to play QB. Doesn't change the fact that he had a broken throwing mechanics and inexperience playing in a pro style offense.

We did not hope for "average" defense - our hopes were above average.

 

The "top 5 defense" stuff is crap.

 

 

Caldwell and Bradley decided during the interview they would focus on rebuilding offense first. That is why it took so long for the defense to get much better.

 

Bradley is not completely at fault, but he is responsible for Blake's regression this season.

The entire offense is a problem right now. The running backs never dominate. I think we've had about 4 good runs all year. The oline is poor. Quarterback sucks too.

It is not the RB's fault that there are no gaps in front of him. Fixing the run game starts at the LOS.

Teams cover up when players are hurt all the time/don't know what a player is going through. Cam Newton had that bum shoulder and Ron Rivera was asked about it pregame and he said he never heard anything about it being a problem.

 

It's not uncommon.

 

Like I said, go for a new QB to take the job from him if it's not turned around next year. Just gotta hope it made an impact on his play and it will be improved.

Maybe I'm misattributing but I thought people have been arguing his mechanics are bad due to injury?


As for the second paragraph, you're right we don't know, but the team certainly does and offseason plans should absolutely take it into account.


Injury or not, I just don't believe it's a significant part of his troubles. A part maybe, but not the driving factor.
