Bill O' Brien to be Next Texans Coach

Quote:Shaw would have been a better hire.

Shaw would have been an excellent hire too, perhaps even better than O Brien.

With our luck, Shaw will go to Tennessee to complete the horror trifecta (Luck/ O Brien/ Shaw all in division)

Quote:They along with the Colts and Luck will take turns.

This is a fantastic hire by the Texans, despite you trying to live in denial.

It would have been better for the Jags had the Texans hired a Lovie Smith or other retread loser.

lol live in denial? Good try. Your such a coward TMD.

Don't care if they got Conan O' Brien, Bill O' Reilly or whoever.

I'm just glad Gus is ours.

We'll see if you're still saying that in any of the next several years.

Quote:Wrong.

When you prove to be able to do more with less, /  win in circumstances that few others would have, you show you are a good coach, deserving a shot at the NFL level.

Lets break it down.

- Led Duke to historically low offensive output, which considering their football background is saying something.

- Bounced around the New England coaching staff (never holding the same position for more than one season)

- Had mediocre results at Penn St.

LEONARD FOURNETTE FAN CLUB PRESIDENT. I WAS BEHIND HIM WHEN YOU ALL SAID HE WAS BRANDON JACOBS. QUIT HATING ON THE JAGUARS. GUS IS GONE. COUGHLIN HAS RESTORED ORDER. FOURNETTE IS FRED TAYLOR. DONT BELIEVE ME JUST WATCH.

Your biggest carrot is what he did at Duke, lol Laughing Laughing

His results at Penn State were not mediocre at all considering the circumstances he was saddled with. Thats why he won the friggin coach of the year award last season, you knucklehead. This year he managed to have a winning record with a FRESHMAN QB for Gods sake. His results at PSU have NOT been "mediocre"

TMD you're a loser.

This is proven by anytime another team makes a move you think may be beneficial for them. You think the Jags and their fans may as well lay down because there's nothing the Jags can do to stop other teams from dominating. You're a defeatist through and through and a joke.

Ok? I'm confident in Gus. He's got fire, humble, likable, a motivator, a great defensive mind, etc etc. He's everything you want in a HC. I'm not gonna lose my mind of what other teams are doing that I can't control and there's no reason to. I trust the new regime we have and know we're headed in the right direction.

No its called being a realist.

THere were options that I could have seen the Texans getting that would have been good news for the Jags. The opinion I have on O Brien was consistent for years, even before he took this job with the Texans. This guy is good and I know it.

Its horrible news for the Jags and their plight to try and escape mediocrity and try to win the division, especially combined with the Colts with Luck and God forbid if the Titans fire Munchak and hire Shaw....

I want to be in a division that's tough. You really know how you're the best? By beating the best. Lets see the AFC South get some respect.

Please. Nothing about his resume screams "NFL Head Coach" material and you know it. Teams win all the time with young QB's, so that's not even a good point of contention (look at the past two Heisman winners).

Gus has proven to be pretty good.

But he's not a miracle worker. Things have to break right for teams to have success. Having your division just get a lot tougher by a great coaching candidate going to a rival is not helping Gus or our cause.

I trust our regime, but theres a decent chance the Texans will now have a -better- regime, its just the way I see it. This isn't a knee jerk opinion either. I had O Brien rated high for years. There were also coaching options that the Texans could have taken that would have been GOOD news for Jax....including one Lovie Smith.....

This news today sucks for Jags fans,

How'd that work out for the Eagles and Arizona in the 1980's and early 1990's in the tough NFC East that they shared with the Cowboys, Redskins and Giants?

I'd rather be in a situation like the 49ers were in in the 1980's, comparatively little competition within the division which helped them win their division more frequently, amass high playoff seeds and many instances of playoff bye weeks which made their Superbowl path easier.

If they get Bill O Brien, then Jags fans might as well just go to sleep for the next decade. The Texans won't mess up their QB pick in that instance, and will take Bridgewater, and we can just go to sleep for the next decade until the Luck/ Bridgewater careers begin to wind down.

Gabbert was a top recruit too, tool. How'd that one work out?

Keep trying to diminish O Brien's accomplishments. You'll look dumber when he succeeds in Houston.

Winning with freshman QB is never easy in college football.

All you've done is make excuses to defend a resume that you know wouldn't normally qualify someone for an NFL head coaching position.

Excuses? O Brien needs no excuses. How many other coaches would have been successful given that Penn State situation/ circumstances???

Not many. Not many at all.

The mark of both a good QB and good head coach is doing more with less/ or doing well through adversity. O Brien proved his worth.
