I know it's fun sitting on the moral high horse, but it's getting really annoying watching highly skilled freak athletes with character concerns like Frank Clark, Tyreek Hill, and now David Irving go bonkers for other teams that capitalized on them falling significantly farther than they should have. I see occasional beef towards Hill still, but Clark's is already long forgotten and I'll bet no one even knew Irving had off field issues to begin with. 

 

If a fringe first round talent like Mixon falls to day 3 would you take him and endure the short term PR blowback in order to get a steal for potentially half a decade or more?

Practically no one cares about Frank Clark anymore, Tyreeks incident will be a footnote by next season, I havent heard irvings incident with domestic violence mentioned once everything is about that school riot thing. Mixons actions are indefensible but eventually one of those characters is going to make it onto this team and if he is good we're certainly going to rationalize it in order to root for him as a member of the jags just like everyone else.

Pretty much. Like I said it's nice to sit on that moral high horse, but someone is going to take advantage of those character guys and they are have a significant leg up on beating you because of it. Is the high horse worth it?

That's different because the character concerns didn't result in getting the great talent at a much lower cost because of it. I'm not saying take a character concern at full price because obviously risk doesn't outweigh reward there.

He's only twenty years old. I don't think he's coming out this year. And I think by the time he does declare his stock will rise back up to where he should end up being a late day one or early day two pick in 2018 or 2019.

 

But to answer your question. Yes. I believe people deserve second chances. I wouldn't have been against this team signing Ray Rice or Michael Vick either.

It depends on what that sin is. I can live with non-violent offenses or even fighting between grown men. That kind of stuff happens and most of the time people move on, but if they are intentionally causing harm to someone smaller and weaker than they are (like children, women, animals), there is really something wrong with that person's psyche. I wouldn't touch those players with a 100 foot pole. I am without "that kind" of sin.

Philosophically, I agree with you on a case by case basis.


If Mixon declared, it seems he is sorry for what he did and he has been largely clean since then. I wouldn't be opposed to drafting him in the right spot.

As others have said, there is room for young men who have made mistakes to turn their life around. However, I tend to think of Telvin with this sentiment. Not someone who absolutely crushes a woman in the face on video.
