Tom Coughlin

Quote:Every January, poor Byron Leftwich suffers a bout of ptsd that stems from Willie McGinest sacking him 4.5 times (a NFL playoff record, by the by) in that one playoff game where we got dismantled in the first round on national television 28-3. Quote:You ok buddy? Jeez. You know me. Every once in a while I go a little Omaha's #1 Jag fan on ya. Be worried if I don't lol.
Kouvoris reporting Jags unable to reach common ground with Coughlin and he's out of the running unless something drastically changes.
"Before you criticize a man, walk a mile in his shoes. That way, if he gets angry, he's a mile away and barefoot."
I'm guessing he was indeed seeking full control as previously reported , which would explain why Caldwell was not apart of the interview yesterday.

I like Coughlim but in the NFL no one should have that. Belichek has earned it, but besides him...just no. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
If that is true, why can't he just be happy with coaching our team? Does he really have to get full control? Good Lord, Tom...
Quote:Kouvoris reporting Jags unable to reach common ground with Coughlin and he's out of the running unless something drastically changes. Its a bogus report by Kouvaris and he has nothing to back it up with. Dan Hicken just said the interest is there and that was just the first meeting.

This isnt the first time we've heard he may want control to get back into coaching...i know you love Coughlin but I think its more likely than not its the cae. I doubt weve moved on completely though.
Too bad. I get where's he coming from on some level. His fate was in the hands of an average at best GM in New York. He doesn't want to be in that position again and I can't blame him. It's too bad that there was no middle ground that they could find as an acceptable compromise.
I like the chutzpah on his part to force an interview for a job that isn't open though.
This team's history has been dismal in hiring novice Head Coaches, novice General Managers, novice OC, novice DC and now we have a two-time Super Bowl winning coach available who out coached Bill Belichick twice and we aren't locking him up.
You know, Peyton Manning and Andy Reid were once available too, and we passed. Good grief. Coughlin is a 71 year old that started to really sputter at the end. Id be down to have him as coach, but good lord if you think we should just give gim the keys to the entire organization. That rarely works. Theres a reason only Belichek has that. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!

But I understand you think you do. You agree, Belichick has full control, and he deserves it, but the man who out coached him with a subordinate QB twice, doesn't. It's true that no coach has ever won a Super Bowl with two different teams. I see nothing to suggest Coughlin could be the one to make history and become the first.
Looking at the most recent Super Bowl winners, including Tom, nearly all were on their first or second NFL HC gig. Kubiak - second NFL HC job Belichick - second NFL HC job Carroll - third NFL HC job John Harbaugh - first NFL HC job Coughlin - second NFL HC job McCarthy - first NFL HC job Payton - first NFL HC job Tomlin - first NFL HC job Dungy - second NFL HC job Cowher - first NFL HC job Gruden - second NFL HC job Billick - first NFL HC job Vermeil - third NFL HC job Shanahan - second NFL HC job If we're going to win anything, anytime soon - it's likely to be a first timer with NFL coaching experience or a NFL coach with his second team.

It is arguable if he was out coached, but Coughlin isn't a good personnel man.
Coughlin when asked if winning will be a focus: "What the hell else is there? This is nice and dandy, but winning is what all this is about."

Just because a guy beat Belichek doesnt mean he should get the reigns to an organization.
About the nost ludicrous reasoning Ive ever heard.
Quote:Just because a guy beat Belichek doesnt mean he should get the reigns to an organization. Yep. It wasn't Tom Coughlin who assembled the roster. Not to mention that: In 2007/8 Brady was beat up by San Diego in the previous game, and it still needed David Tyree to make a miracle catch. In 2011/2 Coughlin squeaked out a 9-7 record. He did parlay three wins in a row in the playoffs, so he's got that going for him. "Why should I give information to you when all you want to do is find something wrong with it?"
Quote:This isnt the first time we've heard he may want control to get back into coaching...i know you love Coughlin but I think its more likely than not its the cae. I doubt weve moved on completely though.Im not buying the reports that he wants full control. Terrible way to leverage yourself into a head coaching position. Dont buy every rumor hook line and sinker. The Bills and Jags are interested in Coughlin, well, The Bills are on the verge of hiring a guy and when that rumor came up about Coughlin wanting full control, they pretty much distanced themselves from him. The Bills are not giving him full control, their GM right now is pretty good. If that rumor is true, then he has played himself out of two head coaching positions and the season hasn't even finished. And I doubt he goes to some team like the Browns, I think The Bills are pretty much ready to compete for the playoffs and its in New York which is very appealing to him, and Jacksonville is his second home where he built his legacy here as our first coach, also very appealing. If that rumor came from Coughlin, that was a pretty stupid move, doesn't make sense and hes not in a position to leverage himself. |
