Must take a QB with our 1st pick

Quote:You never draft strictly for need. When you do, you reach and that can set your franchise back years when things don't work out. This is especially true at the QB spot. I know it's hard, but we have to be smart and take the right guy. Some years, there just isn't a "right guy" that falls to you in the draft.

Problem is QB is the most important position in football and the one main thing holding this team back.

Every GM has a formula for need vs. value.   Clearly - it depends on who our GM is come April, but they will have a clear idea where their "need" for a QB lies and they will know which prospects represent value at each pick allotted.

They very well may not see enough value in the QBs available in the first round. They may see great value in a QB that's still available in the third round.

And as you say - there may not be a guy they believe in enough at all to warrant any of  their picks.

I find it hard to believe a GM of this team wouldn't see value in a QB prior to the 5th round given the need for competition at the position.

(Unless, of course, they are confident about fixing Bortles, really like Allen's potential or plan to sign or trade for a veteran. )

Whoever he is, he is probably better than our forum. It crashes on nearly a daily basis and slows to a grinding halt during game time.

Taking a QB in the mid to late rounds is perfectly acceptable, but in the first round, in such a weak class? No way.

Yeah we might be part of the less than 1% that find the next Brady or Tyrod.

You're not going to find them in the upper part of this draft either. You'd just be burning a pick.

Please don't put those 2 in a sentence together, thanks.  I could see if you said Montana or maybe Wilson

They were both day 2 picks. I don't consider those mid to late rounders personally.

Build the O-Line, get a premier RB and worry about the QB in the 2018 draft. No sense in wasting a high pick on a QB in this pathetic draft class. We just need to have some patience. Get a solid run game going and the team will improve. That way, when we do get our franchise quarterback, everything will be in place on offense for the new QB to succeed.

Heck yeah it is. Browning, Darnold, Jackson, and Rosen. Some nice prospects right there.

I'm not seeing it.

Darnold is the only one in this list that looks like the goods.

Browning has the arm strength of a baby. It's gonna discount him from being anything more than a Day 3.

Rosen has not lived up to his billing of a "generational prospect" yet, and he'll be coming back off of an injury to his throwing shoulder. Next year will be a prove it year for him.

Jackson is not at the level of passer as this year's top QB prospects, and this year's QB class is supposed to be mediocre.

Deshaun Watson is the 6th most accurate QB on deep balls this year. Had the second best accuracy last year. So I think we can dispell the myth that he can't throw deep.

Quote:I'd rather sign Colin Kaepernick, outside of the Bears game, he's played well this season. His tools are some of the best the NFL has ever seen, he's still young, and has a ton of upside. I expect the Jags new coaching staff to be interested in a guy like Kaepernick.
I will never route for a guy with lack of professionalism.

Yeah, if they sign Kap I'm finding a different team.  He's a Castro-loving, unprofessional sack of human debris.

And, honestly, he's not an upgrade in any real sense from Blake.  And Blake has character.

Of for some reason Watson fell to the 2nd round I would think about taking him. Whether bortles turns it around or not he would be very valuable

After watching Watson this year, there's no way he's a first round QB. His height could be one problem. I'm very interested to see his official measurements. He doesn't look 6'3 to me. Two, he tends to hang his deep throws. He did it again last night resulting in a pick. He isn't a good pocket passer. The draft guys I trust have him as a 2nd round pick. One has him going in the 3rd.
