Quote:game over

We beat up the Titans on both sides of the LOS. I think we could do the same against Indy. Denard is atleast serviceable compared to Grant.

Not like a win matters too much though.

Welp, as a Directv customer, it appears I won't be watching the game today. Oh well, it's not like we're in a playoff run and the weather is nice.

#24

I live in NC, so it's the only time I get to see the Jags

Quote:Isn't that only if it's a local game? Down where I live it's always the dolphins so I don't think it's an issue. If that happens I'll be contacting DIRECTV

Its not the game thats blacked out... it's DirectTV arguing w/ local channels over money, so for instance, up here in PA Channel 4 (WTAE) and Channel 11 (WPXI) are blacked out completely

Very little difference in YPC in Denard vs Grant.  I'd like to see some plays that utilize Grant's speed.

So direct tv won't be showing local games on any networks?

Bummer on those blackouts.  what the heck is that about??

I actually look forward to seeing Denard get a chance. He's been disappointing in terms of my hopes for his development and his utilization in the offense, but he does still have that sneaky playmaking ability if he gets a little room to work.

DirecTV doesn't want to pay those channels what they are asking for the right to broadcast them.

They use this tactic a lot. Usually it works. Going after local channels, however, has a lot of us ready to cancel and move to another provider.

I've been on the fence considering cutting out DTV and just using PSVue, Netflix, etc... and just getting the standalone Sunday Ticket streaming subscription during the season.

This may have just solidified that decision.

The local channels get paid by DirecTV/Comcast/AT&T to rebroadcast their signal.    They want more money..  That just comes out of (eventually) your pocket.  I can get their signals via antenna.  I would like DirecTV to play hardball.

What Directv says:

DIRECTV pays programmers fees to carry their networks or local stations. When contracts come to an end, we negotiate new agreements, and the vast majority of the time you never hear about them. But sometimes programmers demand an increase that’s two, three, and even 10 times more what they’ve ever received before – and all for the exact same channels. We believe it’s our responsibility to take a stand and protect you from these excessive price increases so you don’t see an unnecessary increase to your family’s monthly bill.

DIRECTV Is By Your Side
By sticking up for average families and holding firm during disputes, DIRECTV has been able to keep its annual price increases to half the industry average. DIRECTV has your back and wants you to enjoy any ABC, CBS, FOX or NBC show you want – and at a reasonable price. Just imagine your family’s bill if we simply accepted an arbitrary fee demand for one local station, let alone the 1,580 with whom we partner. Your patience has a direct impact on your bill, and so while every dispute is often resolved quite quickly, we appreciate your support as we fight by your side.

Keeping You Connected
Local broadcast stations use the public airwaves for free as long as your Congressional representatives, the FCC and other officials believe they continue to serve your community’s public interest. Yet, broadcasters use blackouts or threats of blackouts to force your family to pay more and deny you access to what was once free network programming. They often blame the cable or satellite TV provider for taking the stations down, when the fact is that only the broadcast station has ability to withhold programming. DIRECTV cannot and will not take your ABC, CBS, FOX or NBC away from you in a programming dispute. Ever. And local stations that tell you differently, often using their own local newscasts, should lose their licenses for attempting to deceive your families.

For people wondering about the availability of both their local FOX and CBS affiliates on AT&T Uverse / DirecTV, it's been in the news for the last week.

This has nothing to do with "NFL blackouts".  If you live in Jacksonville, you will still get the game OTA (over-the-air) or through other providers (Dish Network, Comcast, etc.).

There are 10 kinds of people in this world.  Those who understand binary and those who don't.

Same generic statement they make every time this comes up.

DirecTV charges a fortune for their service as it is... as a 10+ year customer... I'm against them on this one. I've seen it too many times now. I also worked for a Cable Provider and ISP for almost 3 years. This is on DTV and I'm pretty much done with them.

This blackout doesn't effect Directv satellite subscribers, only those that stream over the net.

Then why are my satellite channels blacked out?

Not true. I have multiple local channels blacked out right now as a satellite subscriber.
