If you haven't seen the BBC "series" Sherlock starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman, you are missing out. As far as I know, each season is on Netflix but are only 2-3 episodes long. However, each episode is almost two hours.

I just watched episode one of this series and, other than the obvious pancake makeup Benedict Cumberbatch is wearing on his face, I loved it. I didn't realize who Martin Freeman was until I saw him. I have liked him in other things as well. Thanks for the heads up!

We watch it on Amazon and loved the first 3 seasons. S4 has been weird. Too much going on.

Cool. I like a show that's not afraid to shake things up a la GoT. Amazon did a weird thing and put the first part of the Vikings season on before the entire season was done so now I have to wait until they add the second half. Now that the season is over hopefully the second half will be on soon.

I finally watched "Stranger Things" after hearing all the hype.  I thought it was OK but definitely not what I was expecting.  People say it really nails the era (1982) but I think shows like Mad Men and The Americans work a lot better as period pieces.  Pretty good acting though and directing, production values, etc.  The kids especially do a great job, but TV series with kids as primary cast members don't tend to evolve well.  We'll see how they do in season 2.

 

Also just started The OA (i.e. watched the pilot).  Seems like something I'd like as long as they don't overdo the "foreign indie film" vibe which they were trying hard to do in the first ep.

I'm almost embarrassed to say I thoroughly enjoyed Vice Principals.

 

It's utterly juvenile in a Kenny Powers plays a Vice Principal way.

 

Which is why I like it so much.

Into the Way Back machine here: did anyone ever watch the HBO show Dream On? I loved that show. The episode with Tom Poston playing Bouncy the Clown always stands out in memory.


Whatever happened to Brian Benben?

 

I brought up that show to (my much younger) co-workers last month.  All I got was blank stares.

 

Can't recall he did anything else.  I was in college and we made a drinking game out of the cut sequences.

Another show I like too on Starz is Black Sails. They're fixing to kick-off it's fourth and final season of the show. I think it's a pretty solid story overall. It's basically a precursor/prequel to Robert Louis Stevenson's "Treasure Island". I like the fact that they actually mix in historical pirates who were chased by the British Navy for years with the fictional pirates from the story as well.
