Why stop at GM? What would the key board coaches and owners do?

Fix the O Line. Get whichever pass rusher or safety falls to you in the 1st. Draft a QB & a RB in the middle rounds.

I'm gonna drink beer and watch the draft...I don't have time for these silly games.
Have you seen my baseball?

Why draft a RB when you can go out there and get a quality guy like Gerhart out on the Free Agent market.
![]() Quote:Which QBs do you think are worth drafting. I personally don't think any of them merit burning a pick in the first 3 rounds. After that you're all but assured to get a backup/journeyman caliber QB. I don't see any of QBs rounds 4-7 being considerably better than Allen. Not blown away by the QB class, but of all of them Deshaun Watson is the most intriguing to me. Gifted athlete who would open up the playbook with his legs. Has a strong enough arm. Has played well against some good teams. Like him better than Trubisky and Kizer.

The only time I would ever consider trading up is if I needed a franchise QB and there was one I heavily coveted that I needed to trade up for. There is no one even close to that in this draft. I believe we should trade down and acquire more picks. We need a RB, RT, LG, SS, CB, DE, FB, competition at QB and depth on the O-Line.
in no particular order: QB, RB, TE, T, G, DE, SS.
W/o having a feel for the 2017, in general I think it's usually a much better idea to trade down than trade up.
RB, OT, DE, SS
First 2 rounds I would focus on BAtP: Best Available tiered Player. I rank players in tiers, something like A+, A, A-,... C-, D+, D. Some years there may be no A+, some years it could be 5. Within the tiers I would then rank the players based on scheme fit and need. This method allows you to draft a talented player like Myles Jack in the 2nd round even if it's difficult to find a home for him right away*. QB... Stick with Bortles, either keep Henne or bring someone else in, plus you already have Allen as a 3rd. If a player with a high grade drops to you, then you can take him. I think there are only so many good linemen in the NFL. A lot of teams struggle to build depth and talent. If one comes along you have to get him. I think it is time to spend another high draft pick on a RB. Yeldon was a 2nd rounder, but the previous draft pick was Storm Johnson in the 7th and a QB in the 5th. Draft a RB to play RB, don't convert a QB. *My coaching philosophy is to create a system for the players you have. Gus's defense worked well in Seattle because of the players, but Jacksonville had different players. Create a defense that builds on Gipson, Ramsey, and Fowler's strengths, don't pigeonhole them into something else. Not the best at reading the defenses before he makes his throws. Definitely a talented athlete but not NFL qb material in my opinion.
Coughlin when asked if winning will be a focus: "What the hell else is there? This is nice and dandy, but winning is what all this is about."

So if you had the 40th pick in the draft and Barnett slid and was available at 39, you wouldn't consider trading up for him?

Definitely a talented athlete but not NFL qb material in my opinion. He has a career completion percentage over 67% and has gone over 4000 yards passing the past two years. Throw in over 1600 yards rushing the past two seasons and I think you understand why I'd sniff around that tree. He has had more INTs than I'd like to see, but in a QB class that doesn't wow me, he stands out to me as worth a good, hard look.

Quote:That's why he isn't worth an early pick. More than any other position, if you want one, you have to get one early. I like Watson way more than I like the QBs drafted 1 and 2 last year. Almost no QB drafted in the 1st Round is worth it. For every Peyton or Eli, there's 5 EJ Manuels. It is what it is.
