Quote:Yes, because they totally forgot the fact that they went on to win Super Bowls while we became one of the worst franchise in the NFL
How did we become the worst franchise in the NFL?

Do you know the Lions have not won a playoff game in 25 years, Jaguars have more playoff wins then the Lions and Cowboys combined over the last 25 years

also the Browns are in the NFL

I said "one of the worst" franchises in the NFL

1 playoff win in the past 15 years does not constitute greatness.

I'm going to go out here on a limb and state the Cowboys are a better NFL Franchise than the Jags.

We have 17 wins in the past 5 years which is the worst in the NFL.  The Browns actually have 20 wins during that same time period.

Mike McCoy apparently has 4 job offers and is mulling them.

Could one of those be for a HC candidate like Mike Smith if he gets a job? Or like a concrete offer of a team that has a coaching staff set up already?

Me and my armchair are still available for the HC position. If anyone sees Dave Caldwell, tell him to like, you know, give me a call.

As I stated, we are "one of the worst" NFL Franchises.

I'm pretty sure you can even work from home -- online HC

Quote:Khan paid $770 million for a franchise now valued at over $1 billion.   If he moves to London, the team increases in value.  He can pretty much afford to win or lose.
I can't believe we still see that canard trotted out.  He's not moving the team.  His commitment to Jacksonville is abundantly evident.

Fix the O-Line!

Quote:Will you guys let me know when we hire somebody...and preferably who it is?

Nobody tell him so all season he's like "who the heck is that coaching this team" and drive him to madness.

Quote:Alfie is throwing a temper tantrum on twitter right now because he doesnt have any inside information on who the head coach will be. He thinks the public needs to know every movement within the organization.

Where I don't see him throwing a tantrum..

I'm a little surprised that there are people not on board with Mike Smith. He's a good coach with a proven track record. As with any coach who he chose for his staff is equally or even more important but he seems to do alright there based on his past.

We could do a lot worse than Mike Smith that's for sure.

I don't have a problem with MIke Smith. If he's hired I'm cool with it.  But I do remember watching a game late in his tenure at Atlanta and he made some crazy decisions.  Don't remember now what they were but was thinking they were dumb, and they did bite him in the game.

I like Mike Smith the most of the rumored bunch, since Coughlin backed out. However, just give us a creative coaching staff that will know how to utilize our players. Fit a scheme to the players. Please.

Quote:Everything I'm seeing is that the Denver job is Vance Joseph's.  If Shanahan doesn't land in Denver then he is coming here from what I can gather. There has really been nothing concrete connecting Smith to us other than Clayton saying he thinks he lands here which is just him connecting dots like I did months ago. All concrete evidence and not just connective coincidences points to Shanahan being our next HC.

Vance Joseph ending up in Denver seems like a very realistic possibility.   Joseph was reportedly the runner up to the Broncos DC job in 2015.   This was even before he became a DC.

if Vance Joseph becomes the Broncos HC,   Wade Phillips probably will remain their DC since Joseph worked under Phillips with the Houston Texans for a few seasons.

When all is said and done,   I believe that the Jaguars will choose a HC with prior NFL HC experience.   For Kyle Shanahan to get the job,  he needs to standout above all of the candidates with prior NFL HC experience.

Not true. The Cowboys had 12 playoff wins from '91 through '96. Do the math.

Quote:I have a gut vibe tom will end up over dave.  Nothing signifies to me otherwise.  A secret meeting?  A short end of year speech.  Something big is in the works. many vacancies and tom is not interviewing elsewhere. And no info being leaked.  It will be special.

My line of thinking before Gus Bradley was fired after Week # 15 was that there was a pretty good chance Tom Coughlin would become the Jaguars HC and Dave Caldwell would be gone one way or another.   Once Shad Khan started the HC hiring process well before the season ended,  with Caldwell being heavily involved and then-some,   I now would be extremely surprised if Caldwell will be gone.

I'm for Mike Smith. I feel like he's the most consistent of the possible candidates. Not in the mood to gamble with the flavor of the week. Make Jacksonville great again!

Quote:Dave Caldwell is on a very short leash. I started a threat about this about whether he should be fired or not. It overwhelmingly was in favor of him staying. However, this guy is one bad spell away from getting thrown to the curb. If this team sucks next year, hes gone. Why not take a chance with an experienced coach like Tom? Who can also groom a coordinator while hes here. I dont see Kyle Shanahan or McDaniels really wanting this job because theres no stability. GM could be fired and they could go with him unless they seriously turn this team around in a season. Obviously Denver is a more attractive landing spot which is why Shanahan might look their first and McDaniels already screwed up 1 head coaching gig, you dont get too many second chances at it.

I think Tom Coughlin or Mike Smith make the most sense. Two veteran coaches with tons of experience who can easily shape the team the way they want and hopefully, get this thing turned around in the right direction. Which is what the Jaguars need, we all want a Super Bowl, but lets focus on competing in the NFL first. Lets start competing for the division and trying to push for a playoff spot before we try and look for the homerun.

For many reasons,   including some that you touched on,  in an ideal world Tom Coughlin would make the most sense of the viable HC options the Jacksonville Jaguars have.    You made some real good points,  including getting the franchise back to the competing level.

As a reference point,   I'm going to use my favorite team as an illustration.  Many LIons fans and some media members  are upset that Jim Caldwell will remain the team's HC for the 2017 season.   They aren't satisfied with the team making the playoffs under Coach Caldwell 2 out of the last 3 seasons.   They point to the ending of this season,  w/o putting enough weight on injuries,  the last 3 opponents,  and the overall roster.    They want the organization to go for a Home Run instead of staying the current course.   After the 2000 season,  the Lions went for Home Runs hiring Matt MIllen as GM,  who hired then SF 49ers OC Marty Mornhinweg as HC.   It led to the worst decade of football an NFL team had in the modern era and probably in NFL history.   IMO,  most of the people who called for Jim Caldwell to be let go have very little perspective.

Getting back to the Jaguars,  as much as Coughlin makes sense on the surface,  he would need to be on the same page as Dave Caldwell.   Otherwise,  it would be no sense to hire him and keep Caldwell.    If Coughlin doesn't fit,   another NFL HC with proven winning experience would seem like a criteria the Jaguars should choose from if everything else is remotely close.
