Jaguars can't win unless they win
|
The T-U offered this article a day or so ago...
http://jacksonville.com/sports/2017-01-0...nt-nothing The words in the link explain the overall sentiment. But let's face it, had they hired someone by now, the cry from the masses would be "why didn't they even talk to _____?" As you have seen on the board, Marrone would not necessarily be a well received candidate by fans who think every coach from the Bradley era needs to be scrapped, irrespective of how much better the team looked in the last two games under Marrone. Coughlin would certainly have been a safe choice and probably the least criticized, but clearly he hasn't sold ANY team yet. No team has hired him. Mike Smith would have been another good choice, IMO, but again, he would be seen by many as a mediocre choice, especially for those who want an offensive guy. If the Jaguars want the best possible candidate, they owed it to themselves and the fans to wait and interview any candidates who weren't available to be interviewed until this weekend. I think the two weeks gave them the chance to get the Coughlin interview out of the way, gave Marrone a two week audition plus an official interview., and line up interviews with as many of the available guys they might be interested in, absent the guys not available until this weekend. This is just my speculation and nothing else, but I think the Jaguars will name a guy no later than Wednesday, and contrary to the sentiment in the article, I think those two weeks helped. However, no amount of due diligence and patience is going to satisfy the fans and pundits until the winning resumes here. Worst to 1st. Curse Reversed!

It was mentioned that the search firm (retained late december) can talk with potential coaches without permission of their teams.
You can probably also speculate thats been happening as well. Khan is doing a thorough job this time.....and you're probably right....sometime between now and Wednesday I bet we have our guy. He'll need to get busy on staff too.
Because Jaguars is our mantra

"What could really spice up the Jaguars’ search is if they want to talk to Pittsburgh offensive coordinator Todd Haley".
What could really spice up that article is if Ryan O had a source or something.. Lol bruh he is all over the place in this.. I should write a article off just speculation.. Its simple.. The jags need a coach with some experience behind him.. Offensive minded preferably.. But a Mike Smith won't hurt either..
Talk to Haley, who we can't talk to till next week, yet he's crying that we haven't worked fast enough....
Alrighty then.
IT WAS ALWAYS THE JAGS

Am i the only one who hopes this search takes awhile? I want them to find the right guy. Doesn't matter how long it takes.
It only took them about a week to hire Gus didn't it? Mularkey fired Jan 11, Gus hired Jan 17. I don't mind the wait. It means they don't have a guy in mind that they WANT to hire before they even interview him. Which is exactly how it should be, because it removes personal bias in the interview process.
I was wrong about Trent Baalke.

The difference is we've been in this process (assuming the search firm has been busy) for a while and we've had far more potential candidates and better position to offer. Back when the jags were looking to replace MM.....not near as many potential candidates and the situation with team was way different. If it goes past Wednesday...I'm fine with it, I'm betting/hoping we end up with a quality coach.....Lord knows the team and fans deserve it.

Doesn't matter how long it takes.Naturally, the risk with this strategy is the possibility another team could be interested in the guy we want and hires him away from us. There is a balance to be had between due diligence and speed. Worst to 1st. Curse Reversed!

I don't mind the wait and would not be surprised if we hear of a few candidates getting another interview. The notion that a guy will get hired out from under you so early in the process doesn't seem legit. If you think it is your guy, the candidate is on board, and the money is there to spend, there will at least be negotiations, not a straight door slam or hand to the face. The Jags can't afford to let desperation creep into the process and I like the thorough approach.

Quote:Jags are hiring someone this week Just have to wait for the show circuit to finish the highlights and ad nauseam speculation about next weekend's matchups. NFL is big on controlling the time tables.
