Caldwell is probably in the process of informing his team captains

Who are the favorites

Then again, if we know anything about Caldwell, he's a guy that could put that info out and end up taking someone completely different..... i.e like with Bortles

The local beat guys are all retweeting this now too. Don't know if that means anything or not.

The draft is about misdirection since you don't want someone to trade up ahead of you to scoop up the prospect you really wanted. Everyone's aware which coaches are interviewing where and the coaches are free to choose their destination anyways, so that isn't really needed.

Yes Mike Smith plus Mike McCoy OC, and Wade Phillids DC make it happen

Do Phillips and Smith even have the same defensive philosophy?

Answer: No.

Thats not how it works regarding Wade.

Smith is going to run his defense here. He'll get someone like Duffner from TB to run it. He isnt bringing in a big time DC who runs a different defense.

Once again Mike Smith ran a 3-4 his last few years in ATL

If true, it looks like we'll need a new strong safety.

Duffner would be nice

Draft Hooker and move Gipson to SS
Or draft Adams from LSU

Cyp is a FA anyways

That still doesn't mean it's the same defense.

He adjusts to what his personnel fits best (which is great and exactly what we need as a coach), but that doesn't mean he's running a 3-4 or wants a guy like Wade who will only go somewhere that he completely runs the defense. Mike Smith isn't going for that.

Cyp likely out in a Smith defense, correct?

?

Having two play making safeties is bad umm ok

Mike Smith defense is a cover two, the safeties play deep

Jags this is your year

If it's a cover 2 there's no ss and 2 fs right?

Yea It looks like the early favorite was the guy all along, maybe a curve ball gets thrown and the guy Matt Patricia is the guy, but likely, Its Mike Smith. I wanted Coughlin, but Smith was the 2nd favorite and I think this is a guy that can get this thing turned around quickly. Has a ton of experience, familiar with the team and Caldwell, and has a proven track record of winning.

You aren't going to exclusively play cover two, so you'd still want a safety that could play in the box. Ideally you'd want to have a safety like Eric Berry or Eric Weddle that has the range to play back, but can still come up and play the run when needed. Tashaun Gipson is FAR from capable of doing that.

No Safeties are just interchangeable
