Bortles: "Olsen and House had different beliefs."

To go a step further, throwing a football can't come natural because it's NOT a natural motion - it's a learned motion. Bortles likely only said that because he was a TE before UCF recruited him to play as a QB. If anything, that's good because this proves he can adapt to almost anything if given reasonable time to do so - and no, one bad season is not reason enough to get rid of a guy. Quote:Bingo. That's why he's one of the greats.Agreed. Not time to get rid of him and hopefully he makes some very quick strides, as time is of the essence at this point (understatement). So the indictment remains on Caldwell. In the third pick of the first round, we drafted a raw athletic "baller" of a qb with clearly known accuracy and mechanics issues for an NFL prospect. A "project" by all accounts, which is a stretch at that high spot no matter what. Couple that with what everyone says is a string of "not the right staff to groom a raw qb" at coaches, also on Caldwell, particularly knowing we had drafted a project qb. All this was done when they had an obviously much closer to Nfl ready pure passer, perhaps ready to become elite, Derek Carr on our Senior Bowl roster up close and personal -- for a week. It's almost unfair to Bortles that he's in this pressure spot. He's more likely never going to be the guy, versus become elite/franchise level in NFL, though I hope he somehow proves that wrong. Otherwise this is all on Caldwell. |
