Marrone new HC

Quote:I'm sure Tony's Analytics told him something we don't know.
Tony LOVES Marrone from what I've heard. Marrone is into analytics. Coughlin LOVES Marrone.

This wasn't Dave, this wasn't Shad. This was Coughlin.

People continuing to hammer Caldwell/Shad is just making this funnier and funnier. You think Marrone was their top guy going into offseason? They didn't give him a chance until Week 16. He clearly wasn't their guy.

Of all the coaches who made the playoffs this year, how many were sexy hires? McCarthy? Nope. Jason Garrett? Nope. Bill O'Brien or JDR? Not really. Belichick wasn't as he came to the Pats as a failed Browns coach. Carroll had failed as a HC twice in the NFL. Tomlin was viewed as a surprise.

Point being.. what happened today could be the greatest moment this franchise has had in decades and we just don't know it yet. That's about as much optimism as I can offer.

Pluses.. he knows the players and the players know him. Should be easy to assess the roster and implement the changes he couldn't make with Gus at the helm.
Only a chump boos the home team!

No way. Bortles will be the starting QB. No competion.

This whole day doesn't make any sense so it would fit in.

Playoffs 2020? Probably not

I just enjoying Bkyln's, and others, easily predictable meltdown. If this franchise is so bad then go root for someone else. Cleveland fans have suffered through even worse than us and they don't stop buying tickets, supporting their team, etc.

I'm not crazy about it but at least I'm willing to give it a chance. I like how many have exaggerated the options out there.

McDaniels? He lobbied for Tebow (!) and flamed out in Denver, and he's an offensive coordinator for Brady. Of course his offense is going to succeed. I could coach Brady and win.

Smith? Yeah, he's had some success but he also ended with non-winning seasons, and only won one playoffs game in multiple tries.

Shanahan? A total wild card, just like Gus was when he was hired.

What Marrone has going for him is that in both his gigs he turned his teams around. Took a cellar dwelling Syracuse program and got two bowl wins. Turned a Bills team around and gave them their first winning record in years, with EJ friggin Manuel and journeyman Kyle Orton, both who have less upside then Bortles.

It's not stellar, there's definitely negative points to be made, but don't judge it until it's done with.

I wouldn't be surprised if a vet is signed and allowed to compete for the starting job. But I agree - in the end, Bortles probably starts.

Some of you are crazy to think that Bortles is safe.

Dave Caldwell (or Khan) has put a tremendous amount of pressure on the new head coach.  Marrone almost has to come in and at least go 8-8 in his first year or could possibly be fired. If Blake comes out next year and sucks it up the first couple games of the season I will bet money on it, they make a change.  They are most likely going to draft a Qb in the draft and possibly sign one in the offseason as well.  Coughlin is kind of known for stacking up on QBs (Garrard, Quinn, Nassib, etc...)

That is what happens when you are a step behind (being generous) every single year.

You cut the brakes on the Gus Bus a year ago, and give Marrone a chance then, who knows where we will be.  You take the Gus Bus to the impound lot after the Tennessee game and who knows where we will be.  We sure would have a lot better idea of what Marrone is capable of.

I like the Marrone hire only because I think the other people are extremely overrated with the exception of Mike Smith.  I wanted Mike Smith and was pretty sure he was going to be the choice.

There is no room for trash football anymore.  It is win or go home next season.  There is no excuses anymore.  We have a young team that is coming into the prime of their careers.  It is time to sack up and win some damn football games.

Jim Caldwell wasn't a sexy hire and even after the Lions made the playoffs for the 2nd time in 3 seasons,  many fans and some media members want him gone.    IMO,  these people have short memories of how bad things were with this franchise last decade.

Any coach who doesn't preside over an 0-16 campaign is an improvement for the Lions. That's how bad it was. Even Cleveland in all its glory couldn't pull that off this year.

Im fine with this, he quickly improved this team in 2 weeks.. I am mostly fine because we got TC.. thats what I wanted

Tangibly,  certainly.   Yet,  in terms of coaching,  the Rod Marinelli era wasn't in the top 2 worst I've seen with the Lions.   Unlike Marty Mornhinweg,  at least Marinelli wasn't foolish enough to ask Matt Millen to give up a 4th Round pick for Ty Detmer for the purposes of being the team's starting QB.   In Detmer's first start with the Lions,  he threw 7 interceptions in Cleveland against the team that traded for him.   The 2001 Browns didn't remind anyone of the 1999 Jaguars.

Quote:If true IMO it is a good hire. I didn't give it any chance and it's not "sexy" but I believe continuity to be more valuable than most folks here do. If true and I'm Khan I would let it be known to all involved the leash is short.

Continuity? Are you high? We are 15-49 the last 4 years and you want it to continue????

@ryan oShad Khan: The results will speak for themselves in time, but ... no question the Jacksonville #Jaguars are a stronger football team today.

No competition?

You don't know Doug Marrone then. The dude has a ton of Coughlin qualities as far as how hard he is on players/people. He won't sit by and watch garbage play if Bortles isn't fixed next year.

Tom Coughlin instead of Dave Caldwell running the show?

Doug Marrone instead of Gus Bradley as HC?

You're right, we are WAY worse.
