Quote:There is nothing more rational than looking at past performance. Irrational is thinking a 3-13 team that promotes an assistant with a history of mediocrity is going to be any good. The fact is... We're all guessing. There's good arguments for both sides. Period. And I don't want to spend an entire year in a negative frame of mind over this Stuff when there's no proof of anything. I'll let you guys get all bummed out and upset... And I'll be optimistic, Until proven otherwise. My jaguars glass is half full... If you're a real fan...And you're not happy about the possibility of having success next year...I suppose that's your perogitive ..And I respect that We show less advertisements to registered users. Quote:No doubt Tom had a hand in this hire. I doubt he'd walk into this situation not having a say about the coach. That does take some of the sting out of it. Coughlin interviewed as a head coach. That is what he wanted to do," Rapoport explained. <span style="color:rgb(34,34,33);background-color:rgb(247,247,247);">"He was very clear. He did not want to come in as an executive, he wanted to be the man on the sidelines. And then they decided to hire Doug Marrone and ... Coughlin reversed course a little bit and decided to come on as an executive."</span> This statement by Rapoport contradicts that Coughlin had a hand in Marrone's hire. This was all on Caldwell and Khan, (Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dumb). Quote:Coughlin interviewed as a head coach. Coughlin's first job: Fire Marrone and assume the head coaching position

Interesting spin on the HC/GM thing putting TC over the two positions.
Gives Khan a stronger group running the footballside of things for sure. Now its a matter of seeing how the rest of the staff shapes up with Tom's input. I'm betting things change in that department . Congratulations Doug, it's your team now.
Because Jaguars is our mantra

My issue with this whole thing is what are the roles and responsibilities? Is caldwell now GM junior having to get TC to sign off on every move? Or is caldwell still running personnel and TC is just going to give advice to doug marrone on coaching? This whole thing just reeks of no direction, hire the guy you gave 2 games to as the full time head coach when you obviously had a chance to let him lead the team for half a season and you didn't. Smells like the other candidates wouldn't commit to bortles
Khan abdicated his decision making to Coughlin but has left him handcuffed this year
Marrone replaced Gus Nothing else changed We will vastly under perform again, wasting another year of the young talent's careers NEXT year Coughlin will clean house and real couches will be wiling to come here and it will be reasonable to hope once again That is all We show less advertisements to registered users. I can't wait for real couches to come to Jacksonville. We have settled for sub-par couches for far too long.
10 years ago we had Bob Hope, Johnny Cash, and Steve Jobs..... Please don't die, Kevin Bacon.
Quote:The fact is...What are the good arguments for Marrone? I haven't seen one that holds any water. No Proof of anything? Except past performance, we got plenty of that, plenty of track record to examine there. If past performance as an indicator of future performance doesn't get you down, then there is no proof that will ever satisfy you. Enjoy playing the "there's always next year game."
Calling Deshawn Watson a future bust since 3/19/17. If I eat crow, I will keep this in here and proclaim JackCity a genius.

In case this hasn't been posted. There have been 42 cases where an interim coach became the permanent head coach. In those 42 cases, only 9 have winning records. Jags gonna jag.
Quote:In case this hasn't been posted. There have been 42 cases where an interim coach became the permanent head coach. In those 42 cases, only 9 have winning records. Jags gonna jag. Regarding the data, are the winning records in terms of the next season, overall, or in at least one season during the coach's stay as HC? The next season and overall are more difficult to achieve because most of the time a coach takes over a team that was far under .500. The likelihood of a quick turnaround historically is low. Quote:Coughlin interviewed as a head coach. That is what he wanted to do," Rapoport explained. Timeline could also be this: 1. Coughlin interviews for the vacancy at head coach. 2. Told by Jaguars that they are going in a different direction and is offered executive position instead. 3. Declines offer, but tells Jaguars that if not him, then they should hire Marrone as head coach. 4. Marrone is offered head coaching job and Jaguars again ask if Coughlin is interested in executive position. 5. Coughlin decides to accept the offer for EVP of football operations. |
